Framing for a loft ladder that is bigger than the old loft hatch. This is an example of one I did today, they are all framed differently in each house and you need to consider if some ceiling joists need more support. I usually screw a piece of wood across the ceiling joists temporarily while I cut out the old bits and replace with new, to reduce any joists sagging down until I’ve finished.

Here are some pocket door before and after photos. This type can be brought as a kit. The frame allows for plasterboards to be screwed to it on the left after installation.

Fitting oak doors requires an extra third hinge (due to the weight of the doors). On the doors, the hinge cuts can be made with a router but on the door frames, the router doesn’t get into the rebate so I use hammer and chisel….
