Look for organizations and associations that match your target audience. 3. Ask friends to host book readings for you. 4. On that note, I created a package for my daughter’s fundraiser when I auctioned 8 books, and a soul food meal (I really love hosting), where I cooked at the winner’s home with certain eligibility and expiration and blackout dates required. They bided $450 for that. And because the bids were fierce, the school asked me to add a second and another $600 was raised that round, because I threw in my daughter to come and sing while the meal was being fully prepared. The first bidder asked if they could take that one and have the second bidder match the $450 bid, and someone took the exchange. 5. I even one time, went to see Spike’s movie the Klansman to a special theater that was one of the early adapters to food and alcoholic drinks, with sofas and theater seats with small tables. I got there very early (almost 45 minutes before it started) to secure my favorite spot. While we were waiting for the previews to start, it occurred to me that everyone in there had interest in race relations (the subject matter of my book). I challenged myself to be bold, so I walked up to the stage and said (something along the lines of), “Excuse me, I’m sorry to disturb your conversations, and I know you didn’t pay money to see me today, but my husband has challenged me (that part wasn’t true, I actually asked him if I could say that to win them over) to come up here to say what I’m about to say. I’m a LOCAL aspiring BSA, and I just wrote my first book about similar subject matter as this movie. You may also be interested in learning about (I was totally winging it). My book is a love letter to Dr. King, it is titled 50 Years of Assimilation…” It took about 90 seconds to say it all. And believe it or not, they applauded. I sold 3 books after the movie and was invited to speak at a ceremony at the local community college graduation ceremony. 6. On that note, local colleges and universities. Reach out to BSU’s or other related student associations. Or department heads, and even the professors and teachers. 7. Create a book of the month club with your neighborhood bookstore. You be the first author/book featured, you do all the coordination so the owners don’t have to add one more thing to do to make money for their daily hustle. 8. I also convinced the local library (that I also fundraised for it’s building previously), to let me use the library to launch a short stories series that I published (a product idea I created and enrolled 4 other would-be authors to join me). I enrolled the local high school's orchestra to play our reception music, they agreed. I enrolled their culinary department to prepare the appetizers so their students could do a real event outside of school for training. The cool thing about it was the department heads/and chef, read all the stories and designed the menu around the theme of each series—so beautiful!). We had over 100 guests, and sold over 700 books that evening! Can I tell you, that was one of the most beautiful things of my creation that I was so proud of!🙏🏾💕🙏🏾‼️ 9. Lastly, because if I had time, I could add 20 more ideas I’ve tried over the years, What I’m now realizing is that I was doing hummingbird marketing without repeated vs targeted bee-sting marketing, picking one, or two, and go deep before going broad. (I just made those two terms up, I don’t know if those are real marketing terms) I should be a millionaire already—on the real for my efforts. But, lastly, I had a good time and nominal success at book fairs. I attended a few local and regional ones, but the two largest ones in the country are the Tucson Book Festival and the L.A.
