Often I share ideas and principles that I know will yield results...and then fall behind on "me" actually doing them, because I make videos for my clients...I broke the crazy cycle today. While at a BNI Networking Meeting, we had a new member. A nice young man who was quite nervous during his time to share with us a 60 second intro. So, on the way home, I thought about how I could possibly help him to be a better presenter in the future...and in the process came up with this short 5 minute video. It was recorded and edited very quickly...Let me know what you think. Thank you
The other day, I had a chat with @Zein F , and I've been thinking about a question ever since. As individuals, we usually know what's best for us. However, there's often a gap between our knowledge and our actions, for example, when we fail to apply a new concept from a book. Zein and I both want to help people bridge this gap, but we've found that even if we expose them to well-proven techniques, they won't act if they lack a good reason to do so. To address this issue, we brainstormed ideas related to human psychology and addictions. We thought of ways to use mental default systems (such as the reward system, status, fear, shame, and social interaction) for a good purpose. Some of the ideas we came up with include: - Early and easy wins - Rewards - Measurable progress - Accountability - Community - Rankings - Tight feedback loops - Bets I'd love to hear your thoughts on these ideas and any additional ones you have to close the gap between knowledge and action. In your opinion, what is the best strategy to ensure that the ones that you are helping take action?
@Joan Soler Great idea! Here is a view point you can borrow from US military training: - Find the ones that are committed to your “knowledge” (that means not everyone qualifies) - Make their life difficult, so the ones that are not ready (yet) drop out (drill sergeant style) - Celebrate the ones who survived 🎉 I understand you are trying to “motivate” people to take action but I would balance this with hunger and self-drive, meaning if you try to do 100% of it FOR them, it may raise weaklings… And then again, this is just the opposite side of what you asked for, so keep searching in the other direction too :) Please let us know how you guys do with @Zein F
For lack of a better word, I call it a “Meta life-experience” but I wonder if there is a sexier way to describe that: It’s like FLOW/BEING IN THE ZONE but with the difference that it: - involves more than one person - their behaviors compliment each-other and not only enhance but actually create what I am trying to describe Examples: - two children playing 🚂🪁 - two or more friends doing what they love💕 - someone really passionate about their calling/profession helping a client with full focus in the “here and now” 👩⚕️👩💻 - love making between partners who are truly “into each-other” (excuse the pun 🫣) - a group sport, where the individual players are “in the zone” 🏟️ - a concert 🎶 Examples what it’s NOT that: - you being rushed by the customer service rep because they are not compensated properly or don’t feel aligned to their mission - your friend calling you to vent and you can’t wait to hang up the phone because you don’t want to be a part of it Thank you 🙏
