Topic of the Day: Tailgating vs. Piggybacking
Tailgating Β· Tailgating occurs when an unauthorized person follows an authorized individual through a secure entry point (e.g., a door or gate) without the authorized person's knowledge. Β· Example: A person swipes their access card to open a door, and someone slips in right behind them before the door closes, without the person noticing. Piggybacking Β· Piggybacking is similar to tailgating, however, in this case the authorized person is aware and permits the unauthorized individual to gain entry knowingly. Β· Example: An employee holds the door open for someone behind them, who appears to be another employee but does not have an access card. Test your knowledge: Which one of these physical security controls can be implemented to prevent tailgating/piggybacking - bollard, mantrap, fence?
