You Can’t Fix a Broken Mind With a Broken Body
That might be controversial, but it’s also true. If I were asked to choose between having physical or mental health, I would choose physical health. Mental health is downstream from it. Trying to think your way out of overthinking is like trying to sniff your way out of a cocaine addiction, you can’t really change your mind with the mind. You should change it with the body first. Going for a walk will do way more for your mood than sitting for hours and dwelling on it, thinking about how to improve it. If I had to choose between a good night’s sleep or a hard workout, I would choose the workout, because the difference in my mood before and after the session is way greater. And to make it clear, I believe both parts work symbiotically together. But I believe if you don’t have some kind of physical activity in your life and you’re struggling with mental health, you need to look at the physical side before you look at the mental side. That’s the raw material your mental state is going to grow out of. P.S. You don’t need therapy, you need a barbell (and maybe then therapy)

I also had time when I choose hard workout over good night’s sleep or learning something over good night’s sleep BUT it was a mistake. Good sleep IMO is a crucial part of physical health. Recently, I was watching a Time Management course where 1 lesson was called "Where you can find additional hours in a day". Main topic - the Circadian rhythm. And main message - adjust your daily routine according to your circadian rhythm, specially pay attention to Sleep, Light, Movement, Food.

@Yaroslav Kohut I indeed agree that each body should have an individual approach, and something that worked for one person might not work for another. But still, there are some basics which might work for a high percentage of people, like physical health, as you say, and I agree❤️ But what I see from my own experience, good night's sleep is an important part of it too. And the example of circadian rhythm is just one more proof of such a thought for me. Of course, I do not strictly live by circadian rhythm. Oh God, no. Too extreme. I do not think that I will be able to apply all the rules🤯 So I can't answer your question. I just have some parts of it that work well for me. And still even with that little part, sometimes I fail and continue again❤️.

Hello) My name is Vika) My passion is a combination of logic, art, and my people. Now I’m making my habits an essential part of my life—an independent pillar I can always lean on) I have over 5 years of experience as a C++ developer, most of it spent working on a smart home device project. I believe that tech can support a healthy, nature-connected lifestyle. That project helped me grow tremendously, and I’m deeply grateful for it. In April 2024, I decided to leave my job and reflect on building something of my own. Now, my husband and I are working on our project together. I’m learning many new skills, but the most important one now is how to keep going and believe—despite having no income for a long time, and watching my savings are melting during a global crisis😁💪 I know, this experience worth even more☺️ One day I will share the result of our project here❤️ In 2021, I also became a licensed Zumba® Instructor. It’s a special space where you dance, fill your body and soul with health and joy, surrounded by amazing people. Recommend you to try at least 1 Zumba® fest, you won’t forget it) Happy to join such mindful community ❤️
