Issue #1: Psychoanalyzed by Chat GPT Through My Favorite TV Shows (Accidentally)
What started as a joke with my son ended with a chatbot psychoanalyzing me—weirdly accurately—through my favorite shows. It started with a game… My son asked me to describe the plot of my favorite TV show badly, to see if he could guess them and for the LOLs. He kicked things off by describing his favorite for me to guess, like so: “Highly suspicious group of people want blue-haired girl's pendant. Said girl has a grass cat by her side.” Naturally, I asked ChatGPT to guess the show because I knew it was Pokémon, but not which season, which wasn't good enough for him . (Chat GPT nailed it: Pokémon Horizons, if you’re curious.) Then things spiraled in the best way. As I used Chat GPT to help me with questions for some of my favorite shows. We kept going—bad plot summaries only: - “Grumpy man begrudgingly adopts world’s most valuable mushroom.” → The Last of Us - “Everyone tries to talk on the phone. One guy listens too hard. Nothing ever gets better.” → The Wire - “Short kid wants to fly. Tall kid is mad about it. Volleyball solves everything.” → Haikyu!! - “Overachieving waffle addict tries to build a pit into a park.” → Parks & Rec What started as a bit turned into a conversation thread that I kept going long after my son's attention had wandered back to Roblox per usual. Eventually, I asked ChatGPT: “Let’s switch it up. I’m interested to try and figure out what my top favorite shows are. A top ten. Ask me questions to help me figure it out. I like all the ones I’ve mentioned above. Ted lasso. Severance. Spaced (British comedy with Simon pegg). What we do in the shadows. After a lot of back and forth of it making me a quiz and asking me about theme's etc, here’s what we came up with (and yeah, I think we pretty much nailed it): 1. Shoresy 2. Ted Lasso 3. Haikyu!! 4. The Last of Us 5. Andor 6. The Wire 7. What We Do in the Shadows 8. Community 9. Peacemaker 10. Severance (Spaced, Scrubs, House, and The Bear got cut along the way. Sorry, but it's true.)
