🌳 The Problem Is The Solution
One of the things I have learnt through working with the land, and as permaculture often phrases it: 'The problem is the solution.' 🌼 Take gorse (introduced and invasive speices), for example. Most people see it as a weed that needs to be removed. We see it a little differently here on our whenua (land). 🌱 At Khemeia Valley, gorse has become one of our greatest allies. It's helping shelter young native trees from harsh sunlight, winds, and frosts, it is improving and stabilizing the soil, and creating the conditions our regenerating forest needs to thrive. As the native trees grow taller, they naturally shade out the gorse, allowing the forest to take over. 🤔 While we wouldn't encourage or introduce gorse on purpose, nature is incredibly good at solving problems when we take the time to understand what it's trying to achieve. Pioneer and weedy plants are just trying to fill the gaps in nature. 🌸 When I sit in the trees, I like to reflect on nature and see where it applies in our own lives. Sometimes our biggest challenges aren't obstacles to fight against—they're opportunities to look at things from a different perspective and discover a path we hadn't considered. 🌿 Maybe there is a challenge in your life right now that needs to be looked at from a different perspective or there is a lesson in it for you to learn? You don't need to share the details here if you don't want to, but give us a GIF👇 if you think you'll give this a go!

🌱 What Will You Pioneer This Week?
Over the weekend, while talking with friends, I was reminded about how we have the tendency to wait for the 'perfect' time before we begin something new. Over the last decade I have learnt that if we wait for the perfect conditions then often we just don't grow, things stagnate, we give up on our dreams and we end up with 'what if's' and regrets. The truth is, nature also doesn't wait for perfect conditions. A seed germinates when the conditions are 'right enough'. It pushes through the soil, not knowing what lies ahead. It will face wind, drought, storms and countless challenges along the way. Yet those very challenges are often what make it stronger. I wonder if we're not so different? Sometimes we wait until we have more time, more confidence, more money, more qualifications, or more certainty before taking that first step. But maybe this week isn't about perfect conditions. Maybe it's simply about beginning. 🌱 So, what will you pioneer action be this week? It only needs to be one small step, one small action, or one little shift in mindset to take action. Every forest begins with a pioneer. And every great journey begins with one small step. 👇Share what you want to pioneer this week below and let's encourage one another along the way. Manuka is so beautiful! I love tea tree oil. I’m organizing a retreat in Mexico and I have no idea if it will work..it’s the first time I’m doing something like this, and I’m excited but also crazy nervous!

@Helen Harris oh fun!! How wonderful that you’re creating a retreat space! I will be working on the description and poster today and tomorrow. I’ll definitely share it with you as I go. Maybe there’s a collaboration possibility for retreats in future :).

Kia ora (hello) @Vasi Smith and a very warm welcome to My Tree Legacy! 🌿 It's wonderful to have you here. We're still a small community, which means everyone has the opportunity to get to know one another. @Janine Ogg and @Chris Jeub have been sharing their inspiring journeys and we'd love to get to know you too! 🌎 Where are you joining us from? 🌱 What's one thing you'd love to regenerate—land, life, or maybe both? 🌿 And is there anything else you'd like to share about yourself? Welcome again—we're excited to have you walking this journey with us. If there's anything you'd like to learn about, any questions you'd like to ask, or ideas you'd like to explore, just let us know. This community grows through the conversations we have together. 💚
