Discussion Post Five - Devotion
After watching our class with Pastor Becky Johnson, where in your life do you feel like God is calling you to deeper levels of consecration? What habits or lifestyles could you replace in order to spend more time with God?

I definitely believe that the Holy Spirit has been screaming at me for the past two months about consecration, and this class was the biggest wake up call. I do believe that God is calling me to deeper levels of consecration in my sonship, prayer life, worship, and relationships. The habits I could replace in order to spend more time with God is not grabbing my phone first thing in the morning and praying instead, setting aside time for Him in my calendar during my “busy days”, and being more intentional with just listening to Him speak in prayer time.

In your own life, how can you shift from only being a "servant" of God into becoming more of a "friend" of God? What does that look like practically?

I could definitely shift my heart from being a "servant" to being a friend of God depending on how much time I spend with Him, and how I communicate with Him. I could even change the language I use when speaking to Him to change my perspective on it! What this looks like practically is constant communication with Jesus, and keeping Him as the center of my attention in every single thing I do.

In my own life I could shift from being just a “servant” of Jesus to being His friend by the language I used when speaking to Him in prayer and even worship. Yes, He’s the Lord and Savior of my life, but He also calls me to be His friend! I think sometimes I get into a heart posture where I forget that Jesus is also my friend that everywhere I go, everything I do, and anything that happens in life He’s right there beside me holding my hand!

What does your mountain-top with God look like? How do you believe it has equipped you for the work in the valley? What perspective has God shown you that is necessary for the current season you're in?

My mountain-top with God looks like running to Him with all of my problems and dwelling in His Presence while in the secret place. As of this season it looks like my car, my closet, my shower, and my bedroom. I believe it has equipped me for work in the valley because without His strength and overflow I'm nothing without God! God has definitely showed me a perspective of a renewable and teachable mind in the season I'm currently in. I was highly doubting God for the past month, and it was a struggle to find comfort in Him because I was not spending time with Him.

As we learned, DWMS disorder can cause us to lose sight of what's most important: intimacy with Jesus. What symptom do you experience most often, and how do you believe that intimacy with God will help you to be healed from that symptom?

The symptom that I experience most often is doubt. It’s been definitely getting better and God is renewing my mind constantly, but something I still really struggle with is doubting my future, calling, past, gifting, and even identity. God is healing & refining me through this season with placing confidence, courage, and strength through HIM instead of believing the lies the enemy’s trying to feed me!

Based on the three examples (athlete, soldier, and farmer), which Biblical metaphor resonates most with your walk with Jesus? How did this example challenge your current devotion to God?

I would definitely say athlete for me as being an ex-athlete lol. Something I’ve always wrestled with is the fact that my identity isn’t in being an athlete anymore; it’s being a child of God. Something that the Holy Spirit spoke to me during this class is “Where’s the same fire, grit, and discipline that you once had for basketball for Me now” I’ve been meditating on that as of late and it’s encouraged me to be to be super intentional in every aspect of my walk with Jesus just like it used to be with me for basketball. I feel as if this season has been so fruitful and relaxing because of how much more time I put into sitting with My Father and setting aside time throughout the day to meet with Him.
