This is the "gateway horse" who started it all... I bought him as a 6 month old weanling after having gone 18 years without my own horse. I thought I had big dreams when I bought him but now my life with horses is beyond anything I could have dreamed of. What started as wanting a nice Morgan gelding to raise on my own for trail riding, small shows and to work my farm with turned into having an entire breeding farm with him as my foundation stallion, 2 mares, 1 new filly (not his) to raise as a broodmare prospect, 1 sweepstakes winning filly (by him and out of my own mare) and 1 suckling colt (his).... Plus championship ribbons and awards and trophies all earned by him as I set out to "prove" him as a prime example of a Morgan stallion.. Crazy, right?

@Janet Wilson the first 2 are his 2024 filly and 2nd 2 are his 2025 colt. He's really out producing himself with my mare... I can't wait to see what he produces with a slightly different style mare.. I have a show type Morgan on a breeding lease for next year!

My trick for maintaining a steady pace/rhythm is to pick a song that has the same BPM (beats per minute) as the speed I want to be going for the specified gait... I sing that song out loud (if no one is listening! 🙈) during practice but try to keep it in my head in competition - that makes a steady rhythm easier to accomplish. I'll have to work on my circles and really pay attention to how my horse leads in them now!

@Janet Wilson I practice a lot of walking - Morgan's sometimes get worked up and struggle walking flat footed, they prance.. so I sing Behind Blue Eyes by the Who for a nice forward walk... If I start feeling like it's more "Eleanor Rigby" than Behind Blue Eyes then we're prancing. Lol
Tools for the Job!
As coaches we are there to give the riders tools in there boxes to achieve there goals! No goal is to big or to small that’s the fun of learning!

@Sarah Evans ooh I like that! Do your mind if I steal that for my page?
Introduce yourself here!
Lets find out a little about you... You could use this format - Hi I am from_____________ the first horse I rode was called____________ Share a little about that memory. (My first proper riding lesson was on a horse called Happy Lad, he was a bay! We rode in a huge field on a track, no schools back then...) Got a horse? Tell us a bit about your horse, share with us what you love about him/her? Here is the last horsy pic I took on my phone (just attach it using the paperclip)

Hi! I live in New Hampshire and have a small Morgan farm with 5, soon to be 6 horses. I bought my first "adult owned" Morgan at age 40 after growing up with Morgans and working with horses most of my life. That colt is now stallion and I also own an older gelding and 2 mares. All 4 of those horses are under saddle and I started 2 from weanling age. I have a homebred 2025 colt and recently bought another weanling filly who is on her way for Dec. 1st. I recently took riding lessons that were English pleasure oriented but rode western and hunt seat growing up. I enjoy showing in hand, saddle classes and compete in gymkhanas and trail events. My riding goals are to ride a lot MORE and work with my young green horses so they advance while enjoying rides on my "still green but know some aids" older horses. I just got a 16yo mare for a breeding lease but discovered she has actual training behind her after riding her the other day. I'm hoping to have a community that helps motivate me to ride more, work less! It's easy for farm chores to take all my time but riding needs to be one of them. I'd love to connect to anyone else who is starting horses under saddle and restarting older horses... It's definitely 2 different styles of riding to get them advancing! I'll try any discipline or event - that's why I love Morgans, they do it all! I ride balanced seat at home primarily and would like to work on dressage intro levels. That's about it for an intro! Attached video and photo of: 1. First ride on "Nelly" my leased broodmare 2. "Pepper" my 23yo gelding 3. "Buzz" my 2 month old colt 4. "Chiron" my 6yo Stallion 5. Not pictured is my 5yo mare and 4 month old weanling, I'll get them next time!

My farm is more like a backyard barn - my horses live in shedrow style stalls the open to their paddocks. I have 3 blocks with 2, 2 & 4 stalls, no indoor aisle to groom and tack. They are rarely stalled unless the weather is horrible. Here the riding is pretty nice! I have miles of maintained trails right off my property and am 20 minutes away from the beach, where we can ride from Oct-April. I mostly ride in that makeshift ring you see in the video or my 90ft round pen. I WISH we had gorgeous grassy wide trails like I always see from people in the UK! Most of our trails in New Hampshire are narrow, dirt trails with lots of large rocks poking out of the ground.. like Boulder size!
