Porch Player Development
Coaches! I really need better coaching points and movement pointers to help my big when playing 4 around 1? Any podcast or videos to consume? I have the same basics I have taught for so long and I’m guilty of focusing my coaching eye on the perimeter. I need to grow so they can grow.
Defending 1-4 High
Anyone have any strong feelings on defending the Iverson cut or High Low sets from a 1-4 high alignment?

@Mark Cascio always.
Think Tank
Taking over a new program. I’m wanting to take a culture/identity over everything approach. We have had 6 real practices. Obviously we still have a very long way to go with scheme (Drive & Space + Man). Our first game is against a zone team and I am so torn about spending time on Zone O. How much? Don’t allow the first game to distract from the marathon goal? Need some opinions from coaches wiser than myself.
2 on 1
I have some things that I’ve taught in the past, but I’m really interested to see how you guys coach playing two on one defense.
Varsity/JV
JV coaches if any that are here: how do you add your personality and what you want to do within the concepts of the Varsity coaches' structure? Varsity coaches: What freedom do you allow your JV coaches to have? do you have them do everything the varsity is doing? or do you let them deviate here and there?

I have a completely different take than a lot of these comments. A good assistant coach should WANT to complete the vision of the head coach, whatever that is. Vertical alignment is the way we get better. It is the right thing for kids and coaches alike. One of the ways that a program gets better over the years is that the varsity is not having to learn your major scheme (we are Run & Jump/No Middle Man on defense and 4 around 1 Drive and Space). I don't have to install Rose series, or Predictable Rotations on D every single year because I inherit kids that know EXACTLY what we do. That frees up more practice time than years prior and allows us to either shoot more or add complexity (quick hitters, different alignments, etc.) Its the marathon mindset. Everyone has to be on board. A varsity coach should be inheriting kids that have the prerequisite skills and knowledge to thrive in their system.
