Video 2: Sit & Hold the Accordion
Find a relaxed, stable playing position so everything feels natural. Sitting & Balance 1. Use a stable chair with thighs level to the floor. 2. If too low: move left foot forward, right foot back. 3. If too high: place something under feet or lift heels slightly on chair feet. 4. Keep accordion from sliding down knees to avoid shoulder and back strain. Straps & Support 5. Right strap slightly longer than left. 6. Strap mounts centered on top and bottom help it sit correctly. 7. Back strap (if used) — tight enough for steadiness, never painful. 8. Accordion rests mostly on left leg, not just on straps. Treble Side Position 9. Bottom right corner sits just left of top of right thigh. 10. On large piano accordions, it may touch inside of thigh — keep it vertical. 11. Don’t let thigh press into keys or buttons. Hands & Arms 12. Wrists straight, fingers curved like holding a small ball. 13. Right arm relaxed, close to body; moves from elbow, not shoulder. 14. Left wrist deep enough in bass strap to move freely. 15. Bass strap snug but not tight; allows full motion. 16. Left-hand fingertips point straight at buttons; little finger reaches counter-bass row. Bellows & Relaxation 17. When playing: bellows straps open, bellows open mainly at top. 18. When not playing: close bellows straps for safety. 19. Always stay relaxed in arms, shoulders, and back.
