How would you start in a new city?
Yesterday I was singing karaoke, a few hours later, I was stuck at Prague airport, and today I am writing this from Málaga. I landed, grabbed my backpack, and started with the basics. Local data SIM and a hostel. A hostel is my default first station when I arrive somewhere new, not because of the bed, but because of the people. It is the fastest way to collect contacts. Once I checked in, I switched into “Columbo mode”. Do you remember that iconic detective who would observe everything and piece together reality like a puzzle? That is exactly how I explore a city when I am starting from scratch. I pay attention to everything. Flyers on shop windows, job offers taped to bar doors, event invitations stuck on street lamps. I take photos of them, or write them down, even if they are not directly for me. You never know when they might become useful for networking. After roughly five to ten kilometres of scouting, I sat down for a coffee and went through what I had collected. Then I opened Meetup, Eventbrite, and Couchsurfing to see if anything was happening nearby. On Meetup I found this this international gathering starting at nine in the evening, so I went. A few new contacts secured. My trick is to never leave with just a goodbye. I always ask the organisers if they run a WhatsApp or Telegram group. Those groups are gold. Active people, eager to connect, full of event tips. Thanks to that, I already know there is a hiking community here. For today, I booked a different accommodation in another district. It is an hour’s walk away, and I won’t take public transport because I want to expand my horizons and the GPS center in my brain. As for my agenda, today I will be advancing the collaborations I opened in Prague last week. I also want to think through how I will use the new tiers feature that Skool will be upgrading for us in the coming days, and how I will set up business models for each community so I can implement them as soon as it becomes available. I also want to scout yachting clubs to start building contacts for scaling Yachtusiasts, and I’m already playing with the idea that our Community Investment Summit 2027 could take place on a boat rather than on land. I saw the Nomad Cruise concept for digital nomads and thought that combining the useful with the fun wouldn’t be a bad idea. But that is far ahead for now. Right now, my focus is on expanding Acquire Community with more buyers, getting a feel for the yachting industry, and finding a co-tycoon
