Need Your Help: Working on HCA Curriculum
Ben Startzer and I are building something we wish we had early on… The Arena Coaching Head Coach Academy (HCA) is coming in a few weeks. We’re creating a certification packed with everything a head coach actually needs in their holster: - Handling absences - Running a booster club - Building teacher relationships - What to say when a player wants to quit - And a lot more that never shows up in a playbook We need your help 👇 If you’re a head coach: What do you know now that you wish you knew on Day 1? If you’re an assistant coach: What do you know you need to learn to interview well and hit the ground running as a head coach? Drop it below—this is being built for you.

how to handle a crisis (whether it impacts the team or the community), community engagement tools/ideas, how to handle difficult parents (yes all of them are crazy...thanks Rick Jones!), how to raise up young assistants, how to work with other HCs in the the athletic department
Every coach had that one line… 😂
You know the one—Said it every single day…Didn’t always make sense…But somehow you’ll never forget it. Our OL coach at ULM, JB Grimes, used to say at least twice a day: “I’m not going to piss on your leg and tell you're sweating.” We didn’t fully understand it at the time…But we knew it meant business. 😆 👇 Drop yours below—Best coach phrases you’ve heard (or STILL say today) Let’s build the ultimate list. I’ll start collecting the best ones and turn it into a graphic for the community.

BUILD THE MACHINE #1 - JUICE FACTORY WARMUP
🔥 JUICE FACTORY WARM-UP (3–5 MINUTES) Most teams warm up to get loose… We’re going to flip the switch. 🏭 The Setup:⏱ 3–5 minutes MAX🔊 Music ON – high beat, high energy (no slow tempo) From the second it starts… 👉 It’s FULL JUICE. 🎯 The Rules: - No walking—sprint between everything - No quiet reps—constant communication - Coaches bring energy—no standing and watching - Players finish every rep like it matters ⚠️ The Standard:If it doesn’t have juice… 👉 It doesn’t count. Restart it. 🎧 Music Matters:This isn’t background noise. You want: - Fast tempo - Heavy beat - Something that makes it impossible to go half-speed The music sets the pace—your practice follows it. 💡 Why This Works:Most teams ease into practice… Then wonder why they start slow in games. You just trained your team to start FAST. 🏁 Challenge:Try it TODAY. 3–5 minutes. Music on. Full juice. Then watch: - Practice tempo - Energy - Communication 💬 Drop it below:What song did you use? Did it change your practice? Let’s build a JUICE playlist coaches can steal.

At article for those that want some science behind it: https://fitness.edu.au/the-fitness-zone/music-to-motivate/ We enter the building with music blasting and fist bumps/secret handshakes/ whatever it may be. Today's song of choice "Bombs Over Baghdad" (154 BPM)
Build this Community with Me
Coaches — I want this to be the most valuable community you’re part of. But I don’t want to guess… I want to build it with you. Quick question — what would help you the MOST right now? 👇 Drop a number (or comment if you’ve got something else): 1. Spring ball practice ideas 2. Culture / team building 3. Leadership & captains 4. Offense (Fast N Wide / scheme) 5. Player accountability (tracking, discipline, OVR-type ideas) 6. Motivation / weekly messaging to players Or just tell me straight—what do you need?

We adapted Randy's "Follow Me" group in Germany to also have a t-shirt. Our program has a perception of being rich/entitled compared to the other school in town (this separation of rich and poor isn't as real anymore, but the idea persists). We started an "Anti-Cake Eater Club" with a t-shirt. Three guys were given it on day one of practice. They awarded one after each practice if anyone showed they were living into the standard of the program. It's awesome to see that group wear the shirt with pride!
