This always gets me sewing when I'm stuck
I think we've established that quite a few of us are in a sewing rut... so I thought I'd share what I do when that happens. First: I DON'T go looking for new ideas. How has scrolling and saving ever helped me? It just makes me feel worse - now my 'to sew list' is EVEN LONGER and I still haven't made anything 😩 STEP AWAY FROM SEWING INSTAGRAM - thank me later. So what then? 🌟 I go back into my personal sewing archives and think about which projects were exactly what I love about sewing: Something that's satisfying, useful, not too complicated but not just sewing two rectangles together, lets me use pretty fabric, and has a great end result. 🀩 This Bucket Bag project is exactly that! That's why we're sewing it this month in the Creative Sewing Club. You'll learn to sew in the round, work with interfacing, and because it has a drawstring instead of a zip, it's a really enjoyable project. The pattern includes 4 sizes, so you can make all sorts of things - from an easy backpack to a carry bag for an exercise mat. If you're tired of collecting patterns and fabric and never actually sewing, come and join us for this month's sew-along. ❀️ - There's a free trial, so you can have a look before committing - and yes, you can access this month's bucket bag pattern during your trial πŸ™ƒ >>>7 day free trial<<<

That looks like a fun sew along. Could be used as gift bags too.
Beginner's Sewing Course STEP 2 - Fabric 🀩
SEWING = FABRIC OBESSIONS🀩 But should it? When I started sewing I was obsessed with buying fabric. I would go to discount fabric stores and leave with enormous bags full of any fabric I could find... What a HUGE MISTAKE πŸ™„ Almost ten years down the line and I am STILL stuck with pieces of fabric I would never buy today. I made two mistakes: 1. Not understanding that there are different kinds of fabric and how they are used when sewing 2. Not knowing what kinds of fabric I like (not just what was on sale or what looked pretty) YOUR NEXT TASK: Take a few minutes and learn a little about fabric. In the classroom you will find these videos all about a fabric: QUICK LESSONS: ▢️ Fabric Basics : stretchy and non-stretchy fabric ▢️ What is grainline and bias??? DEEPER LESSONS (if you like understanding WHY fabric has a certain name, description and use) ▢️ Fabric Deep-Dive Masterclass Don't forget to download the FABRIC GUIDE in the downloads section. It has lists of fabric and how to work with each type: πŸ“© FABRIC GUIDE PDF DOWNLOAD +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ WHAT FABRIC DO I NEED FOR THE LOUNGE SHORTS? For this project you will need: - non-stretchy fabric (called woven fabric) that isn't too thick i.e "medium weight" - think of Pajama bottoms when choosing the fabric: does this feel like something kind-of sturdy but not as thick as jeans? And not as thin as silky pyjamas? - an old sheet is a great start! - Fabric suggestions: flannel , cotton , chambray

I had the same buying habit and in the beginning. Glad I wasn’t the only one.

Getting out of a sewing rut πŸ₯΄
Hello everyone! It's been a while since I posted here - so much has been going on : homeschooling, having a baby and some other family stuff. I really miss sewing πŸ˜… I sometimes feel like my project is too simple to post πŸ˜©πŸ˜‚ (Like no one wants to see you make a headband, Christine 😬) Well, all things aside I want to do more over here - so let me know what you need! A course walkthrough? A challenge? Tips? A fun workshop to make something? Are you stuck in a sewing rut or is it just me πŸ™ƒ

Congrats on the arrival of ur lil one. Yeah, time has been my problem with homeschooling, canning and gardening. And I am sure when I get my machine I too will be in a mess trying to figure what I want to do first. No we really want to see everything ur making.

@Christine Craythorne same here it really takes a big chunk of time.
Where to begin??
So you have a sewing machine... maybe you've tried using it and now you're just not sure where to begin... Although I *highly* recommend diving in with a project (because you learn best by doing!) - you may want to get comfortable with your sewing machine first: πŸ‘‰ Practice stitches on scrap fabric πŸ‘‰ Try things like turning corners and sewing curves πŸ‘‰ Play around with different stitches on the machine Sewing is a lot like driving. When you start out you need to focus REALLY HARD on every single part. Footpedal, needle, fabric moving πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’« But...the more you do it, the sooner it becomes muscle memory and you can do it without thinking too hard! >>>Find the Sewing Practice video lessons HERE<<<

This has always been a problem for me. I will definitely have to try this method till I get better at judging when to turn. Thank you!

Usually, something like a pillow or bag holder or clothes pin bag ( well that one is a little more time consuming). But hoping to change that to clothes.
