My dream when I went to Liberty was to get a degree in counseling, learn how to have a good family and be a great husband and father. I wanted to be able to teach others and do seminars. When I graduated, I went to Pittsburgh, Pa to start a church. I failed miserably at marriage; starting a church; and being a seminar speaker. I ended up broken and bitter and away from God. I lost everything. Whom the Lord loveth, He chastens. I AM INCREDIBLY LOVED!!!!!! There was a season in my life when I was completely broken—humbled by God in ways I could not have foreseen. In my surrender, I found restoration. Realizing how many years I had spent wandering in rebellion, I offered a simple prayer: that God would let me finish well. Soon after, opportunities to serve on the mission field began to open, and what followed was a remarkable journey of faith. God led me from Guatemala to Honduras, a path many around me questioned. Some insisted I was stepping outside of God’s will, but I never sensed that from God. After five years serving in Copan Ruinas, God brought a kindred spirit into my life—a devoted woman whose heart for God matched my own. Maria lived in La Ceiba, nearly nine hours away. The age difference between us stirred criticism and assumptions, but our conviction remained. When we chose to marry and settle in La Ceiba, again, some claimed I was outside of God’s will. Yet, something extraordinary was happening—God’s unmistakable blessing rested on everything we put our hands to. We moved close to Maria’s school, building a home that soon became the heart of our ministry. For more than five years, we poured ourselves into the lives of children and their families. When the challenges of Maria’s full-time teaching and ministry responsibilities grew overwhelming, we shifted the children’s program from Saturdays to Friday evenings. That small adjustment became a turning point. Parents began to attend worship gatherings with their children. Though I had once tried to start a church in my own strength, this time God took the reins, gently showing me what it means to trust His timing and method. Week by week, adults joined us, and soon, I found myself shepherding a growing community—they began calling me their pastor.
