Provider or Present DAD?
Hey All, Just curious what you guys would actually choose in this classic dad dilemma between provider and present, no right or wrong answers. Two options: Job A pays a lot more, covers bills easily, extra for holidays, abundant savings, better future for the kids, but comes with working away, night shifts, OT grind, or doing work that’s not your passion. More provider mode, but sacrifices time at home. Job B pays enough for our current needs (no money worries on basics), feels more aligned with what you value, and gives way more family time. No nights away, regular evenings/weekends, being present for the everyday moments. Simpler lifestyle, no big extras, slow savings rate. If you had to pick between the two, would you go for A (higher pay + sacrifices) or B (steady + more home time)? And what does your current work look more like—A or B? Also add you current situation, married? Young or older kids? Etc. Thanks for the honest takes, comment below!

We chose the present lifestyle 24 years ago. Now that the kids are teens, expenses are higher, but our kids aren’t used to having ā€œall the thingsā€ their friends have. However, because we see the time drawing nearer to having an empty nest, we both have found passions that we are creating into businesses that we hope will be up and running full steam ahead when our last kid graduates high school. So I suppose I’m choosing present moving in the direction of provider (for retirement). Ha! Married / 4 teenagers / 45 yrs old
