Seniors, How You Leave Your Commitment Matters
You just committed to a school. Congrats. But right now there is something most seniors completely overlook that can actually affect their college experience before it even starts. How you decline your other offers matters. If you were admitted to schools you are turning down, some of those admissions officers sit on scholarship committees, graduate school boards, and fellowship panels you may encounter again in four years. Academia is a small world. Medicine is even smaller. Here is what to do this week. Log into every portal where you were accepted and formally decline your offer. Do not just ghost them. Do not let the deadline pass silently. Schools track yield data and your spot sitting unclaimed delays someone on the waitlist. If a professor, interviewer, or alumni volunteer personally helped during your process at a school you are declining, send a short thank you email. Two to three sentences. No explanation needed. Just gratitude. If you received scholarship money you are not using, decline it formally and promptly. That money rolls to another student, sometimes within days. And if you are still on a waitlist somewhere and genuinely would attend, send a Letter of Continued Interest this week. Not next week. This week. April is when most waitlist movement begins. What school did you commit to? Drop it below, let the community celebrate with you.

Hi!! I just committed to the University of Toronto as a Pearson Scholar, a full ride covering tuition, housing, and living expenses for all four years, given to 37 people worldwide. I am incredibly grateful, especially because I was also admitted to schools like Northwestern, Berkeley, UCLA, and Rice, and I am currently waitlisted at Princeton, UPenn, Dartmouth, UChicago, and Johns Hopkins, so I am still not entirely sure how things might unfold over the next few weeks. I have started formally declining offers from places like Berkeley and Northwestern, so those spots can go to students on the waitlist. Although I did have the chance to formally work with you, your advice on TikTok really helped me throughout this entire process. I'm glad to be a part of this community :)
Worries for Regular Decision
Hi everyone! I recently applied for REA to Yale and was flat-out rejected, not even deferred. Does this mean I don't have a competitive chance for the colleges I will apply to soon for RD, and should I worry? I don't intend on changing my Common App essay, but I'm unsure of how to reframe my story, narrative, or profile so it'll become more effective for RD. Rejection hurts :( and it's really disappointing that they did not choose me for a referral, but at the same time, I'm trying my best to be optimistic and move on! I'm going to use this opportunity as a springboard and signal to push myself even more next time.
Welcome to the Ivy League Academy!
Hey there, welcome to Ivy League Academy. I am really glad you are here! This community is your space to learn how to build a standout application for Ivy and Top twenty schools. You will get step by step lessons, monthly to do guides, community support, and a place to ask me anything along the way. To get started, do three quick things: 1. Introduce yourself - Tell us your grade, what you want to study, and one goal you have for this year. 2. Watch the first lesson in the Classroom - It will show you how admissions officers actually think and what matters most. 3. Check the Calendar for our monthly live Q and A - Bring your questions and I will walk you through your next steps. I will also be dropping occasional freebies and bonus resources, so check in often to grab them first. Excited to help you level up this year. You are in the right place.

Hello everyone! My name is Khoi, but you can call me Thomas. I want to study ecology & evolutionary biology, cell and molecular biology, or biochemistry. One goal I have for this year is to maintain my 45/45 IB predicted grade, which has been getting more challenging since I achieved it in October. My school is doing a re-prediction in January, but college application szn is so stressful so it's been increasingly difficult to manage my time.
