Food styling isn't about faking anything. It's about making food look as good on camera as it does in person

An easy shot that always looks great is having your subject hold out a cocktail in front and capturing it at a nice 2.8 to 3.5 aperture. Single light set up with a soft box angle down on a 45° angle. Always remember to tell them to slightly tip the cocktail forward so that you can see the whole rim and garnish on top. I call this the “Gatsby shot.”

Stop using your light like it’s for make up application, its time to get dramatic!
