Question on the Randle Cycle
Hi everyone, In Module 7 - The Randle Cycle of the CCI course, I think there's a little piece of information missing (or that I missed): In both glucose and fat "modes", citrate concentration increases in the cytoplasm. - In fat mode, citrate inhibits glucose absorption in the cell. - In glucose mode, citrate is converted into Acetyl-CoA, only then into Malonyl-CoA. Malonyl-CoA inhibits fat oxidation. What is not clear to me is : why in fat mode, the citrate inhibits glucose while following the same chemical chain reaction that leads to Malonyl-CoA and therefore should ALSO result in fat oxidation inhibition (that obviously does not occur). My understanding is that the only difference when looking at citrate > Acetyl-CoA > Malonyl-CoA chain reaction is the concentration levels of ACL and ACC enzymes are lower in the cytoplasm. Is it correct ?

Maybe the body need time to "process" the remaining fat. Stored fat can contains toxins in addition to the "energy" and vitamins, especially if It was stored during a "questionable" lifestyle 🙄. That partially why some people has some issue months later after transitioning to carnivore. Maybe there's a individual limit on the amount of fat the metabolism can process at once. To answer the question, no. I don't think proteins blocks anything. They can be use as substrate for gluconeogenesis but the body will only do it if It's need to (increase in physical activity).

@Melanie Spigelmyre Yes, I know. But seeing other people still talking about calories, I was wondering if it was not worth it to discuss about it so we are all at the the same page ;)

Could be interesting to discuss how to "detect" effectively if a client has difficulty/issue to up his/her fat intake (your discussion with Kathleen Brandsma comes to mind). And then, in which cases we may advice the client to keep some carbs in the diet.

Why water is a poor hydration protocol ? You don't need anything else. Sure, you can add minerals, but It can make the situation "worse". what make you think the person is dehydrated ?
