Task 1
My second attempt. (I’m aware the legs look a bit wonky) 🙈

I do struggle a bit with drawing a “pose”. A lot of times I have the perfect pose in my head for a specific situation, so I try to find the closest match for that pose on google. But I want to be able to draw even if I don’t have a reference, perhaps I need to take some figure drawing classes. For instance sitting down poses are a bit complex

Thank you so much Adrian for the encouragement! That truly made my day! Yes, it is a lot easier for me to think of these as just “attempts” and I can improve them for a portfolio worthy image.
Brief 1
Here’s my third attempt. As I finished I felt like the World map doesn’t look as unexpected maybe. Other options I had been considering were binoculars/globe/mini telescope. I so badly wanted to draw your example of a cleaning duster😂 but wanted to come up with something of my own. I first started with a chic outfit(red top) but didn’t like how it was going at all, so started again with a different outfit. Also, it’s embarrassing but I am capable of drawing better. I think mentally I’m treating this as homework that I need to just finish, so the result isn’t as great. I’m also not using the best paper so the painting is a little compromised because of that as well. I’ll attach an example of something similar i have drawn before just to show you.

Task 1
My first attempt. Kept it simple as I didn’t want to get caught up in perfection, just wanted to complete the task. Painted on paper.

Thank you Adrian for such great advice! I’m motivated to do better next time. What I really appreciated about this class was how it streamlines the illustration process. A lot of times when I sit in-front of a blank canvas my ideas are a hodgepodge and it takes me a long time to figure out all the details I would include before I even start drawing. Now I have a map of choices that I can follow and that really simplifies it. I don’t think I prioritised the “situation” my character is in, and pose was just an afterthought to the outfit I wanted my character to wear. Now I understand that “situation” and “pose” can really set the tone for an illustration, that’s exactly what was lacking in some of my work. Oh, and gotta love the unexpected item idea. Can’t wait to play around with that. I’d like to add that I’m absolutely thrilled to have this opportunity to learn from you.
Welcome to The Studio!
Where would you love to see your illustrations? Book covers, magazines, products, movie posters, maps? What’s your dream? I’ll go first: I always wanted to see my work in magazines. Your turn!

The possibilities are endless 🙈 I would love to see my illustrations in people’s homes, it could be art prints, table linens or ceramics. I also love the idea of having my work on product packaging!
