For the coaches afraid they're not good enough to coach
Have you ever come across the Lamp Post Distinction, coined by coach, Steve Chandler? He wrote this: “Let’s say a person leaves his place of business every evening and walks over to a lamp post and speaks to the lamp post. Maybe he vents and talks about the problems of the day and talks about the opportunities for tomorrow and some places where he can make improvements. But it’s just a lamp post sitting there. Yet even that would make that life better. Even that would have that be a better person. So even talking to a lamp post every evening would be something that would be beneficial to a person. And you as a coach can be better than a lamp post. You talk back, you can really listen, you can see things.” You are better than a lamp post. Next time you doubt your abilities as a coach, just remember that. If even talking to a lamp post is beneficial, how much more powerful is it for a person to be coached by someone solely focused on them for that time, listening, guiding, empowering and cheering them on? If you want to coach but your fear is stopping you, take heart from this. Step out in courage to coach someone. If you don't feel comfortable coaching someone you know, then coach one of the wonderful coaches in this group either on one of the Zoom calls on offer or by reaching out to someone in the community. Don't let fear stop you going for your dreams.
