I got my CAGE Code!
Just received the notification I have a CAGE code Registration Activated for CaregiverRelief LLC / MNTQBN3HRNT9 / 20ZC8 in the U.S. Government's System for Award Management (SAM.gov). I am now going to work on learning the different opportunities. Exciting
Hi Diane! šŸŽ‰ Congratulations on getting your CAGE Code and SAM registration activated! That is a huge milestone because many people never make it through the registration process. You’ve already completed one of the biggest steps toward doing business with the federal government. Now the fun begins—learning how to identify opportunities that align with your experience and services. My suggestion is to start by becoming familiar with your NAICS codes, setting up saved searches, and reviewing opportunities regularly so you can begin to recognize patterns in what agencies are buying. The great thing is that you don’t have to know everything at once. Government contracting is a journey of learning one step at a time, and you’ve already built a strong foundation. Wishing you continued success as you explore the possibilities ahead. Keep us posted on what you discover and any opportunities that catch your attention! šŸš€šŸ‘ #GovernmentContracting #SAMgov #CAGECode #SmallBusiness #CaregiverReliefLLC
Diane, it really sounds like you hit the jackpot with your counselor! 😊 I've heard stories all over the spectrum, and having someone who is responsive, knowledgeable, and willing to take the time to understand your business can make a huge difference. It sounds like she's not only helping you navigate the process but is also helping you focus on the right next steps rather than trying to do everything at once. I also love that she's talking with you about finding opportunities that fit your business. That's so important because not every bid is worth pursuing. Keep taking it one step at a time. You're building a strong foundation, and having the right guidance along the way is invaluable. I can't wait to discuss your progress on our weekly call and hear more about what you're learning along the way. Keep us posted—we're cheering you on! šŸŽ‰

Great work Diane :)
šŸ“š GOVERNMENT CONTRACTING TEACHABLE MOMENT
Not every opportunity is a government contract. Before spending hours reviewing requirements, ask yourself: šŸ‘‰ What type of opportunity is this? šŸ›ļø GOVERNMENT CONTRACT A government contract is when an agency is purchasing a product or service and expects something in return. Examples:āœ… Medical Equipmentāœ… Call Center Servicesāœ… Constructionāœ… Consultingāœ… Technology Productsāœ… Maintenance Services The government is the customer. You provide the product or service. You get paid under a contract. šŸ’° GRANT A grant is different. The government is providing funding to support a program, project, research initiative, education effort, or community service. Examples:āœ… Public Health Programsāœ… Community Outreachāœ… Research Projectsāœ… Educational Programsāœ… Nonprofit Services The focus is often on outcomes, reporting, and community impact rather than selling a product. šŸ“‹ RFI (REQUEST FOR INFORMATION) An RFI is typically market research. The agency is gathering information before deciding whether to issue a future solicitation. Think of it as: "We're considering buying something. Tell us what's available." RFIs are great learning opportunities because you can learn what agencies are considering before the actual bid is released. šŸ” BEFORE YOU INVEST YOUR TIME ASK: 1ļøāƒ£ Is this a Contract, Grant, or RFI? 2ļøāƒ£ Is the agency buying something or funding something? 3ļøāƒ£ Can I perform the work? 4ļøāƒ£ Do I need a partner? 5ļøāƒ£ Is this worth pursuing? šŸ’” One of the biggest lessons I've learned: Not every opportunity is meant to be pursued. Sometimes you bid. Sometimes you partner. Sometimes you use it as a learning opportunity. The key is knowing the difference before investing your time. šŸ‘‡ Have you ever reviewed an opportunity and realized it wasn't what you thought it was?

My Apex Counselors response to my one page capability and NAICS codes
I wanted to share the response from my counselor. I want yo to know that I use AI to help me. I was very pleased with the response. I did try to go into SAM. gov to change my codes , as per recommendation, but was unable to do so. It appears I must wait for some approval, before I can change the codes. On another note, I have a meeting scheduled with my counselor this week. And I am also doing the Introduction to the Mentor-Protege Program. I do get confused as to where I can find things in the system. I will encourage everyone to work with AI to help you. Diane, Thank you for sending this information to me. Can I just say I appreciate you for the organization you have demonstrated in this document - it is probably the best I have seen Here are my recommendations: - Capability Narrative: I recommend keeping the first two paragraphs and removing the last one as the information in the last one can be captured through key words. I do, however, recommend referring to your support of "government agencies" vice just "agencies" and "prime/subcontracting partners" versus just "subcontracting partners" to make sure you do not inadvertently exclude a key industry.Ā  - Keywords: I have no additional key words to recommend but suggest the separation of current phrases into stand-alone words/smaller phrases as follows -Ā  - NAICS Questions - Other Questions Please let me know if you would like to set up a session to review this information or if you have any other questions. I look forward to hearing from you and have a great rest of your day. Sarah DePeri SC APEX Manager
Diane, thank you for sharing this with the community. First, congratulations! This is exactly the type of progress that comes from taking action, asking questions, and being willing to learn. What stands out to me is not only the feedback you received from your counselor, but also how organized and proactive you have been throughout the process. I also appreciate you sharing your experience with AI. Like any tool, it works best when paired with human expertise, and I love how you're using it to help you better understand the terminology, systems, and recommendations being provided. One thing I want others to notice is that Diane isn't waiting for everything to be perfect before moving forward. She's meeting with her Apex counselor, attending Mentor-ProtƩgƩ training, asking questions, reviewing recommendations, and continuing to take the next step. That's how progress is made. Government contracting can feel overwhelming at first because there are so many systems, registrations, and moving parts. The good news is that the more you work through the process, the more familiar it becomes. Thank you again for sharing. I'd love to discuss this further on our Saturday call if you're available. I think your experience and the feedback from your counselor could be very helpful for others who are just getting started. Have a wonderful day!
Cage Code Follow-Up etc.
The old SAM.gov phone number 866-606-8220 has been officially disconnected — it no longer exists and is no longer listed on their website. Here is what to do instead: 1. Email DLA directly at cage@dla.mil — this is the Defense Logistics Agency who actually assigns CAGE codes, not GSA. Include your company name, UEI number, and ask for a status update. 2. Log into your SAM.gov account and use the Live Chat at fsd.gov — Monday through Friday 8am to 8pm Eastern. Select SAM.gov and CAGE code as your issue category. 3. Submit a ticket at fsd.gov if chat is unavailable — you get a case number to track your request. 4. Check your SAM.gov entity status at sam.gov/content/status-tracker using your UEI number — this sometimes shows where you are in the process without having to contact anyone. The 90-day window is real right now but emailing DLA directly at cage@dla.mil tends to get faster responses than going through FSD. Do both at the same time and reference your UEI number in every communication. Hang in there — once it comes through everything moves quickly!"
