AVCS issue or knock sensor problem?
Hello people :) i have a 2006 SUBARU legacy, 2.0i gasoline and LPG, approx 260xxx km (167k miles), located in RO, Europe. The engine started to lose torque before 2500 - 3500RPM, randomly. At higher RPM it seems to be working fine. It's gotten so bad that i feel like begging the car to just go. :) No error codes. Here's the weird part. Using TORQUE app from android and a cheap OBD BT dongle, after i clear errors (even if there is none), the engine suddenly behaves as it should, until i go above 3000RPM. Then back to no low-end torque. It happens regardless of the engine running on gasoline or LPG. Also scanned using a VAG cable and FreeSSM. No errors. What i did so far: Using RomRiader and some AI magic, i was able to pull some data out. Please see pics. Did the idle relearn procedure, multiple times, no change. Replaced the PCV valve, no change. Please help? :)
AVCS issue or knock sensor problem?

A couple things stand out to me here. The fact that clearing ECU memory temporarily restores power makes me lean more toward an AVCS/VVT control issue than a knock sensor. A bad knock sensor usually causes more consistent timing retard rather than “works fine until higher RPM then comes back.” I’d probably check these first before throwing parts at it: • AVCS oil control solenoids sticking intermittently • AVCS banjo bolt filters clogged/restricted • Cam gear/phaser sticking internally • Oil pressure/oil flow issue to the AVCS system Your left/right AVCS graph also looks uneven below ~2500 RPM, which could definitely cause the low-end torque loss you’re describing. If IAM is dropping or knock correction is heavily negative around 2500–3500 RPM, the ECU may be pulling timing hard. But sometimes unstable AVCS operation is what causes the phantom knock correction in the first place. I’d still inspect the knock sensor for cracks and clean/check the MAF, but personally I’d start with the AVCS system and oil control side first.
2013 subaru legacy
I’ll Be tackling the trans in my legacy 2.5 pretty soon and its the Tr580. Looking for a good Step By step video to do this job. Also, any recommendations on specific transmissions i can use with no other complicated issues to work for my car? Any advice on this would be appreciated!

@Victor Hutchinson hey, not entirely sure yet. We have been pretty swamped with head gasket jobs and engine replacements l

Diagnostics.
Which scan diag scanners would yall recommend for your typical everyday DIY’er? Top don, Autel? Etc.. tia.

For the average DIYer, you don’t need to go crazy expensive, but you do want something that can read more than just basic codes. If you’re just getting started A simple Bluetooth scanner like BlueDriver or an OBDLink with an app is honestly hard to beat. Cheap, easy, and gives you live data which is where real diagnostics start.
2016 outback 2.5 limited.
bought this used with 160k on it a few months ago. Noticed that the Coolant crossover pipe O’rings needed to be replaced since there was some leakage from it. There was oil leaking from both valve covers as well as the Spark plug coils.. I went ahead and replaced the seals for the coil packs, spark plugs, rtv’d with new gaskets both valve covers, replaced plenum gaskets, crossover pipe oring, also when i removed the throttle Body, i replaced that gasket as well. My question is when i took the throttle body off to replace the gasket, Am i supposed to do a factory relearn on that to find the best idle again if that makes since?

Yes , turn air , radio and head lights off.. start it and let it idle for 20 mins to relearn idle.
