Contest: Rare Reading Recommendations
TLDR; Win one of my favorite books. Deadline Thursday, June 3, 2026 at 11:59 Eastern Time. Read anything good recently? Something that’s not very mainstream, but nonetheless entertained you, made you feel something, or taught you something. I don’t want recommendations for bestsellers or Kindle pirate werewolf romance smut. Whichever THREE people send me the best recommendations win a fantastic prize. šŸ‘‰ I will mail you a copy of the most surprising and entertaining book on influence I’ve read in the past 10 years. (No, it’s not Influence by Cialdini. That would be lame.) You don’t need to be a marketer to get value out of this book—in fact, I believe it should be required reading for every business owner and digital entrepreneur. Let me have your recommendations—top three contestants by 11:59 PM Eastern Time on June 3 WIN. Drop a comment in this thread to participate (email replies don’t count):

@Nick Bandy LOL the serviceberries are the illustration she opens with. What stuck with me is that the small things we can do for our environment and to care for one another matter. How we move through this world matters. Had a good blend of a vision of what we could do when we treat each other and our environment with respect, and practical ways to actually do that.

Your travel plans
I talk about traveling a lot. In fact, one of the biggest drivers for me to make money is so we can spend it on travel. What about you? Do you have any upcoming travel plans?

@Nick Bandy maybe if I didn’t have to also parent. Darn kids and their need for positive examples
🧠 How smart is your governor? Money Lever 148
Quick quiz for you. Which of these license plates makes its respective state the most money, and why? You should be able to tell without looking up any revenue figures from state departments of transportation. Bonus Points: How can you use the same technique as the winning license plate in your business?

@Nick Bandy @Chris Downham Virginia definitely makes you pay for vanity plates. Plus if you want a plate for your college, a non profit, etc. Which is why initially I thought that was where this thread was going šŸ˜…

@Nick Bandy My last business was a two-person team, so we had a bit more time to develop the funnel. Mostly lead magnets. Training, quiz-style lead qualifiers, content access after in-person speaking events. Meta and Google ads got us in front of people. Some homepage sign-ups. Any clients or contacts also got invites to opt-in.

@Nick Bandy Church Marketing - so the audience was senior pastors, communications directors, executive pastors, etc. In hindsight, I know our messaging was off, and the list was full of people looking for free stuff. But I didn't have the, ah, creative control necessary to make that shift 😁 Also why I've since launched on my own and have a different focus.
Do you close every deal?
One of my offers (my favorite product, if I'm being honest) helps "un-ghost" dead conversations. šŸ‘»šŸ‘»šŸ‘» Could be with potential clients, affiliate promo partners, people whose podcasts you'd like to appear on...it doesn't matter. Works in emails, DMs, any medium you can think of. I know it works, because I use it every week. It turns totally dead, lost opportunities into paydays. My question for you is: āž”ļø Give me a reason you WOULDN'T buy this. Because I can only think of a few reasons why, but maybe I'm missing something.

I'm tired after years of doing all the marketing things and want to touch grass. Now I just do social media ads so I rarely have to talk to clients.
