As long as they only have part an and B and have not been enrolled in a Medicare advantage plan or a Medicare supplement, they can apply for parts C at any time. If they have dropped a plan then they will need to wait until open enrollment in October. Many of the parts C programs or Medicare advantage programs include part D.

@Tom Hickerson plans are constantly changing their formularies, so it’s important to to review your plan every AEP. Also, changes every year. 2025 no more donut hole.

Medigap policies are probably the highest level of insurance that you can get and you can get it only when you turn 65 years old. They are all federally subsidized so it doesn’t really matter what company you decide to go with, and you can actually shop around for the lowest premiums. It’s always better to speak to an agent rather than to your friends because everyone situation is different. I’m not saying that your friends don’t know, it’s just that they have selected the best plan to fit their needs. It doesn’t take very long so it’s always best to speak with an agent before you make your decision. The Medigap policy gives you that 100% coverage after you pay your part B calendar year deductible, and you just never know, as we age, what we may run into healthwise and the last thing we want to worry about our medical bills.
