When someone passes, the spirit is no longer bound by the physical body or the illnesses that body carried. Dementia is a condition of the brain, not the soul. In ancestral veneration, we are connecting with the spirit of the ancestor — the essence of who they truly are. That means you’re reaching the wise, whole, and aware version of them, not the confused state the body experienced near the end of life. Many people actually report the opposite: once they begin honoring that ancestor, the presence they feel is clearer, calmer, and more loving than the final years they remember. So you’re not calling the sickness — you’re calling the spirit behind the body.
