Dance Teachers: Pay yourself first!
If you’re paying everyone else before you… Your business is quietly teaching you that you come last. Rent. Music licences. Costumes. Staff. Everyone gets sorted. You? You get “whatever’s left”, and sometimes, that can be very minimal. Have you been in this situation before? Although we may think we're being nice thinking about others first, here's what's really happening... When you don’t pay yourself first, you: - Start resenting your own school - Say yes to too many classes just to “make it work” - Stay stuck in survival mode instead of growth mode Paying yourself first isn’t selfish. It’s a boundary, and I think it says: “I run a real business. My time, energy and expertise are worth paying for.” Even if it’s a small amount to start with, set a non‑negotiable monthly salary for you. I've seen time and time again that when you show respect and value for yourself, others see it in you too. Then, build the rest of your expenses and pricing around that, not the other way round. Your dancers deserve a teacher who isn’t burnt out, and quietly worry about money. Have you made that positive shift yet, or is it something you need to work on? This Thursday - we have a guest speaker in, Sam Smith (the Accountant, not the Singer 😆) And we're going to dive into all things money.
