Hi Den, I've been busy in post on 3 video projects - kinda got me bogged down. Reached out on LinkedIn to an old client this week - 10 yrs plus since working together - only my second connection. My profile has a picture and that's it. I know I got to get onto this but decided I'd connect regardless of not being set up. He accepted and was stoked to hear from me. A phone call ensued and we are meeting next week - after a short discussion, he mentioned he'd like to introduce me to a few of his connections and discuss what's currently happening in his industry - an industry/niche I am developing/targeting. I appreciate this is only one outreach, but I'd delayed reaching out to this person for more than 3 weeks and finally acted regardless of currently not having an online presence.
What’s a good niche or market for your video production business? (Chris Skarratt part 1)
🎥 VBA Members' stories with Chris Skarratt from The Cleveland Agency in London 🎥 Hear how Chris built his successful video production business from the ground up. Plus, Chris tells how he battled, overcome, and sometimes sidestepped his way to success. 👉 If you’re wondering, “What’s a good niche or market for your video production business?… then listen to the one mentioned at 3:40. (Not only is this a fun and exciting niche, but it’s almost recession-proof, too.) 👉 The Chinese have a strange phrase for good luck: dog shit luck. Well, what do you call it when someone has dog-shit-luck that suddenly turns to just dog shit? (Who knows? But that’s exactly what happened to Chris’s video production business a few years back. Hear this gut-wrenching tale at 4:00) 👉 Chris’s caveman simple (but profound) statement about change. (We all want certain things to change, but many people never see that change take place. Here’s a major reason why… 5:00) 👉 The myth of status quo in business. Many business owners foolishly believe they are maintaining their business, but are they really? (Hear this sobering truth from Den at 7:20) 👉 Den’s brilliant litmus test for knowing (almost instantly) if a prospective client will be a good fit or not. – 8:40 👉 Prospective clients like to do business with service businesses they like, however…here’s an even more important fact… 8:50Leadership advice to video business owners who manage a team. – 10:00 👉 Chris’s dang good book recommendation for those who are serious about fulfilling their true potential in life and business. – 10:20 👉 Chris’s “better-late-than-never” success habit he’s just started doing. (But don’t be too quick to scoff, dear listener. There’s a good chance you’re not doing this almost stupid-obvious success activity, either. – 15:00) 👉 3 special questions (most business owners never think about) to ask yourself about your business that can potentially lead to breakthroughs, increased profits, and a more smooth-sailing business operation. Listen carefully at 17:40 or you’ll miss it!

Some good advice there, looking forward to part two. The early part regarding being kind, professional, and positive is so true and tied in nicely with the swearing story regarding context. As someone who is at times moody I've learned that levity on set and around clients (all life really) makes for a much richer experience and outcome for all. Even if it feels like everything is coming undone - stay cool and calm, regardless of how you 'feel'. Stay positive and inclusive, if you work with the right people and respect them and genuinely care almost anything can be overcome - Shit happens - so see it as an opportunity for you and the crew to go 110% MacGyver on its arse. I originally read about holding on to levity in an interview with Guy Ritchie, and it has stuck with me.
Thanks - This helped.
#1.5 - The 5 stages of fast growth I can relate to this(Mindset stuff). Thanks Den.

Love getting out in nature and roaming the mountains, skiing, taking photos & watching country footy. Enjoy filming over editing, beer over wine.
