"Get a Stop!" and Better Defensive Cues
Hey, enjoy this little excerpt from the previous hours. I hope it makes you all smile and gives you some ideas to be more intentional with your cues, especially on defense. Look forward to talking LockLeft, everybody, on live training this week. What are some common defensive coachisms you hear that make you smile?

Psycho and Mouthy.
LL BLOB/SLOB
When guarding BLOB/SLOB do you influence the ball to go left and is the "Wolf" used to chase the ball once inbounded to get it back to the left corner?

@Frank Fogg This is exactly what our program is installing in our first RS and LL season. We've found the LL principles to be a perfect match. Better players, better teams.

⏰ How long should practice last?
I'd love to hear thoughts on the ideal practice length, particularly early in the season. We were always no more than 2 hours, including pre-practice. I found our best practices were more intense but shorter so we would often trim down to 75 - 90 minutes where possible. Here is a video from our Practice Better Course in the Classroom. If you want to unlock the entire classroom, click here. If it's not for you, let me know and I will get you your money back. @Tyler Coston and I are doing a deep dive into practice planning and execution in November. Paid members can attend live (these are our group consulting calls) or watch recorded.

Great discussion, appreciate the feedback from a community of leaders focused on serving those placed in their care. A mentor once told me “coaches win practice, players win games”—this thread reminds me of that. 90 minutes of deliberate, no-time-wasted is our program’s max. for a team practice. Also, we routinely offer a 30 minute post-practice playground inviting athletes to take the lead on sharpening individual skills. This extra also creates the opportunity for the coaching staff to engage with one another and athletes for relationship building (partner rebound, dummy defense, chalk talk, etc.).

First year Head Varsity Girl's Coach at a small Northwest Montana public school. Bad news, similar to Kevin (introduction prior to me), our program has been a revolving door of coaches. Good news, our community is full of wonderful young athletes who love to play the game. Since being offered the position ten days ago, we've put the right people with the right stuff--coaches--on the bus, peppered our community with hype for the upcoming season, and kept the gym doors open to hear the sweet, sweet sounds of kids playing ball. Offensive style of play: Race and Space, simple 2 & 3 player actions + Rose Series Defensive style of play: Lock left, matchup zone out of specials, hunting kills (3 consecutive defensive stops) Best wishes to everyone as their seasons begin. #ballislife
