Get the Gig - 1st Assignment
πŸ§ΉπŸ‘¨β€πŸ”¬ Brush Lab, it's giveaway time πŸŽ‰ I have created an 'assignment' for you which consists of: - Leadsheet/worksheet - Drumless backing track - Lesson video Watch the video to learn about the assignment. Once you're ready, record yourself playing along to the track and upload your video to this thread. The idea is you stick to the task outlined in the video. The first tune is called The Spy and it's a medium swing. You are to play the main groove without any fills or variation, then learn the hits in the shout chorus. I will choose the winner who I think sticks closest to the task and you have until November 30th to upload. Your prize can be one of the following: - Phrasing and Freedom with Brushes - paperback with free worldwide shipping - Comping and Improvising with Brushes - paperback with free worldwide shipping - Beginner's Guide to Big Band Drumming - paperback with free worldwide shipping - 30 minute online lesson with me Good luck, and I look forward to watching your entries!

@Simon Schwarzenbach Hi Simon. Apologies I did not reply earlier. Thanks for the kind words. I appreciate it. I was trialing my new microphone on my snare. It is a new Sennheiser MD421 Kompakt and I have used it on a floor tom previously. I used it alongside my trusty old faithful Shure SM57. I did blend the two mics together with the overheads, but it is mostly the MD421 that you are hearing. It was the first time ive used it on a snare drum, it was really just a test to see what it sounded like. For brushes, you can not really tell the diffrence between the two. You get a little more high end on the Sennheiser but not much.

Welcome! Introduce yourself + share a pic of your favourite snare πŸ₯
Let's get to know each other! Comment below sharing where you are in the world, a photo of your favourite snare drum, and something you like to do for fun. 😊 I'll go first - I live in Melbourne Australia, my favourite snare is the Gretsch 2mm Copper 14x5 (with Kentville Kangaroo Head) and I love long-distance running πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

Hello Everyone! My name is Steve. I am from Melbourne Australia. I really love drumming and music. But I also enjoy gardening and cooking tasty food. Here is my current favourite snare drum. It is my 1968 Ludwig Supraphonic. I occasionally play brushes on this, but mostly use it for funk and stick backbeat stuff. It is an absolute pleasure to be here with you all. :)
