The Cringe Portal
If you’re not willing to look cringe working toward your dreams, then your life defaults to the subtle cringe of mediocrity. Most people would rather hide behind a “safe” facade to avoid criticism than actually express their uniqueness.

Stop asking, “How’s it going?”
Stop asking people, “How’s it going?” You’ll get predictable answers and life continues on auto-pilot. If you want to generate new insights and opportunities, ask people these questions instead: 1) What’s your mantra for today? This gets people to put a theme to their day and leads to what’s really on their mind. And framing it as a mantra points the conversation toward resilience and finding solutions. 2) What made you laugh today? This one is fun. We all see things, even little, things that make us giggle to ourselves. This creates the space for fun, playful conversation. And when people are feeling free and playful, that’s when serendipity really kicks in. 3) What pleasantly surprised you today? This blends lightheartedness and meaningfulness. It also reveals and reframes rigid thinking patterns in a fun way. 4) A specific question related to something you know they care about. Something like, “How’d your son do in his game?” or “What have you learned in that painting class lately?” I get it. With some of these, the fear of being ‘too weird’ might come up for you. But being a little eccentric is infinitely better than sleepwalking through life, complaining about the weather, and gossiping about celebrities.

The Cling
Most people have metaphorically traded a functional hand for a coffee mug. They grab something. Then they cling to it. And they carry it everywhere, never letting go. It could be an identity. A belief. A habit. A goal. The ability to grab is great for initially getting something. But if you can’t release your grip, it becomes a liability. Because you lose the ability to: 🦅 Maneuver freely 🎯 Move on to the next thing 👋 Receive more The hand is such a good metaphor for the mind. It’s useful to grab onto things. Just don’t forget that a hand is also designed to let go.

Billionaire Says He Uses Affirmations
We like to pretend that business is pure logic. Then you look at what elite operators actually do behind closed doors. Tobi Lütke is living proof that the most analytical operators on the planet secretly rely on mental mechanics that sound like ‘manifestation’ fluff. Until you look closer. The Shopify co-founder and CEO (who’s about as data-driven as they come) uses affirmations. Not as wishful thinking, but as literal software updates for the brain. Here’s his exact framing: "If you tell yourself or write down something about yourself 100 times, it writes into the neurofrontal cortex at such a deep level that your brain will start reconciling you to that. It just works." Tobi used this to shift his own psychology. He was terrified of public speaking. So, for one week, he sat down daily for 10 minutes and wrote a single sentence over and over: "I love public speaking." Seven days later, the fear was gone. As he puts it: "It's not like a placebo. You actively change your neurofrontal cortex in the moment." The takeaway for builders is simple: Your brain doesn’t care about objective reality. It only cares about the narrative you rehearse the most. Identity isn't fixed. It's something you code.
