Calling Artists & Generative AI Users
I wrote this article and would love feedback in the form of some roasts. What works? What doesn't? What makes you angry about it? https://artistsagainstai.beehiiv.com/p/ai-art-harms-artists

@Ezra Zerof @Paulo Costa, The Roaster, I appreciate the concern behind this, and I agree that artists deserve respect, protection, and recognition for their work. At the same time, I think the conversation needs a little more balance. A.I. does not act on its own. It does not wake up and decide to create something. Every output begins with human intention; a prompt, a direction, a refinement. Without that, nothing happens. That does not make it a replacement for artists. It makes it a tool that reflects how it is used. There is also a long tradition in art of learning by studying, referencing, and even copying. Many artists, myself included, have spent time in galleries or libraries sketching the work of others to understand form, style, and technique. That process has always been part of developing skill and voice. The presence of A.I. does not erase that. It changes the landscape, certainly, but so did photography, digital tools, and every major shift before it. There are valid concerns here; around consent, attribution, and fair use; and those deserve thoughtful discussion. However, these also involve the people using A.I., not the A.I. itself. But framing all A.I. generated work as theft or โ€œslopโ€ risks shutting down a more nuanced conversation about how humans and technology can coexist, and even collaborate, in creative spaces. The real question may not be whether A.I. harms art. It may be how we choose to use it, shape it, and integrate it responsibly.

Very early in my business life a wonderful mentor shared with me the understanding that "If only..." were the two sorriest words in the English language. He taught me that outcomes are what they are and can not be changed. We can only move forward. It completely changed my perspective and I have never looked back. "When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change!" -- Dr. Wayne Dyer.

A couple of years ago, I wrote a 118-page guide on how to use ChatGPT effectively. I have sold many copies for $19.99. This morning, I revisited it. And I realized something. The biggest change since then is not the technology. It is the approach. Back then, the focus was on prompts. Today, I work very differently. More conversational. More iterative. More natural. Today I have made that original guide available as a free resource. Not because it is outdated; because it shows where the journey began. And understanding that makes the next step much clearer. You can access it here: Unleashing the Power of ChatGPT (Standard tier [free] membership required.)

@Ezra Zerof as @Steve Atencio suggests, it will make a great series. It is a solid introduction to that as-is. Nice.
