✨ Wander Wednesdays #7: When You Can't Wander
Lately where I live, the weather has not been too conducive to wandering. What do you love to do with a day that's too hot, too rainy, or you just don't feel up to wandering? As a bonus, I'd love for you to share a photo of nature (or your favored indoor spot or activity) to fill this post with beauty and comfort! :) Here's a sleepy bunny friend I photographed earlier this summer. On a rainy day, I love a good nap.

Just my little garden. It's been VERY hot where I am so the only time I'm outside is to check on my plants. But since I get twitchy if I'm inside too much, I've been to check on my plants like 6 times a day!

What have you baked, crocheted, grown, painted, written, photographed, mended, built, or noticed this week? In reading our members' bios and answers to the community membership questions, it is apparent we have a group of makers, creators, and dreamers. Patchwork will be our weekly place to gather and share what we have been making. Patchwork is a collection that grows over time, and each piece is unique . . . just like the members of our community. Let's create something beautiful together. To share, comment below. If you would like, you can attach a photo to your post by selecting the paperclip "attach" button and choosing the file from your phone or computer. P.S. I hope you will spread the love and cheer on our members as they share what they have made. A "like" can go a long way :)

Cucumbers! After a tough year last year with my garden I've already harvested 5 cucumbers. I live in a house that has no real yard so I have to make due with pots and finally, finally found a good cucumber variety that likes pots so I'm hoping this is my summer for cucumbers! The tomatoes are also plugging along nicely and my baby herb garden is doing so well. Mint, spearmint, lemon balm and chamomile all do well in pots and I have plenty of dried herbs for my teas to show for it! These 2 pickles were the first harvested and are now chilling in the fridge as fridge pickles!

The lemon balm is in a pot (pictured below). The key for it and all minty family plants is to NEVER put the pot on soil. A lovely man at the farmers market where I purchased my spearmint start told me that if possible, put it on cement as it will come out of the bottom. And he was right, my peppermint has tried to escape from the bottom but since it's on cement I just get peppermint growing up my pot. As for the cucumbers, I am lucky to have a local garden center/seed supplier that prioritizes non-GMO seeds and seeds that grow well in our specific climate. I planted the Container Cucumber Bush Slicer from seed (renee's garden is the brand) and it has done wonderfully in my pots! I purchased one cucumber start as I have had terrible luck and just wanted to guarantee a few cucumbers!! It was called Patio Snacker and is a non-gmo, organic plant. Both are really thriving in my pots but do make sure you have trellis or something for them to climb. I have two small trellis on one part and turned a few tomato cages upside down for them to climb as they ended up going a different direction that i envisioned🤣 It is small for sure but even being able to grow some of my food feels good and I do just love being in the garden it's very soothing for me to putter about, picking flowers off the basil and checking for pests on the leaves.
