What’s one outdoor belief you hold that most folks would disagree with? One sentence. That’s it. (No attacking. Just real takes.) Where the Map Ends, The WILD begins!! Stay Rugged.

@Rodney Thompson Outdoor Skills I should say fatwood, but I have a strong relationship with birch, so that would be my pick. How about you?

Dealbreaker: Wind or Bugs? 🌬️🦟
You get one. A) 20mph steady wind all night B) Swarm-level mosquitoes at dusk Which one ruins the trip faster? Drop A or B + one reason. Where the Map Ends, The WILD begins!! Stay Rugged.

GEAR TIP: Why Überleben is a "Field Staple"
If you saw Stacey’s comment earlier, you know we’re talking about Überleben. There’s a reason this brand is a go-to for fire-starting—it fits perfectly into the "Stay Rugged" philosophy. Why it makes the cut in the Gear Lab: Reliability: Whether it's the St. Marys humidity or a Suwannee downpour, their ferro rods throw consistent, high-heat sparks. Simplicity: Real field systems shouldn't be complicated; these tools are built to work when things get "fuzzy". Durability: Like our cast iron pans, these are buy-once, use-forever tools that hold up to real-world abuse. Rodney’s Pro-Tip: When using a ferro rod in the blackwater, pair it with birch bark or fat lighter. As we saw on the Suwannee, birch bark burns like it’s been soaked in gas, and a good spark is all you need to turn a damp camp into a warm home. If you're grabbing replacements like Stacey, don't forget to use that 10% discount code in the pinned post! 🎒🔥 Where the Map Ends, The WILD begins!! Stay Rugged.

Totally agree, @Rodney Thompson Outdoor Skills, on any top 5 best gear brand for fire-starting. Love the tip on ferros in the blackwater. We have a lot of birch here on our property but oddly, I don't think I've ever tried to light birch bark. And the weekend plans take shape... 💕
