Think of it as a bridge between the present and the past. Try writing a sentence with "for". Then rewrite it with "since"

It’s great to be here, thanks for inviting me! My name’s Snjezana, I’m originally from Bosnia. I grew up in Bosnia, Switzerland and Croatia. I’ve been living in Salzburg with my 17 years old daughter for 9 years. I’m here because I had the idea to move away from Croatia to see some new places and start a new job. I work in technical support for a software program from Raiffeisen Bank. Currently I’m studying English because I’d like to feel confident in every day English and my big goal is to become fluent.
