Why Do You Work When You Don't Have To?
I was asked this question by a well meaning neighbour just this week. And I'd like to share that here with you... And the answer for me is simple really. Because when I was younger I thought that having money was the end goal. I was driven to 'not be stuck' because of not having any money, like I saw my mother was. Our home was like living on eggshells - not knowing when Brian, our stepfather (and income provider) would go off! She felt she couldn't get rid of him... she needed the money!! And she felt STUCK!!. But the truth is, once you have enough money to be comfortable, your focus changes. And for me, the end goal now is for impact. I spent years figuring out finances the hard way. I was often broke - I mean I really did eat vegemite sandwiches for over two years, just to save for my first house depsoit... and just quietly, that still wasn't enough!!! I didn’t have guidance, mentors, or someone to say, “Hey, here’s the simple path to get ahead.” So now that I am financially free, I choose to work so others don’t have to go through the same weekly stress, the confusion, and maybe the shame like I felt when I was younger. I work because helping you get confident with your money lights me up. I love watching you go from overwhelmed to empowered. To see the confidence as you make life decisions, and helping you to create that shift is everything!! And I work because of Helen’s House. This inspired idea came to me on 15th October 2025. That day I founded the mission to create safe, transitional homes for women rebuilding their lives after domestic violence. Women need somewhere safe to land and after the crisis, you get pushed to the back of the rental list with all the other competition! So today, 100 % of profits - the sale of every program, book, and tool I create contributes to that vision. Its a big mission 10 homes in 10 years, but its so worth it. That keeps me driven, grounded, and grateful every day. And honestly, you can only lawn bowl so many days a week!
