Have you had a frightening result in a test report? A friend of mine, Sam, had one recently. He had his one-year-old Lipid Panel, so I told him to run it through MedeXplainer Pro to see what it really said. In it, one result stood out. The report he had was a year old, and he didn't understand it at all until he ran it through our MedeXplainer Pro app. He hadn't taken it seriously. Now, he did. Here's the result in the original: "Triglycerides ... - Result: 430 mg/dL ..., - Normal Range: <=150 mg/dL" That one little item. Of course, he said he had scanned over it and he felt okay, so he didn't worry about it. Then (now, a year later), he ran it through MedeXplainr Pro. Here's the explanation (MedeXplainr Pro text in quotes): TRIGLYCERIDES "(a type of fat found in your blood; high levels can increase risk of heart disease and stroke." Normal Range: "less than or equal to 150 milligrams/deciliter" Your Result: "430 mg/dl" "Your result of 430 is significantly elevated (more than double the normal range, which puts you at high risk for heart problems and pancreatitis -- a serious inflammation of the pancreas)" "Comments: The NCEP Adult Treatment Panel III (National Cholesterol Education Program guidelines -- expert recommendations for cholesterol management) suggests that a fasting triglyceride level of less than 150 mg/dl is Normal, and 150–199 is Borderline-high." When he saw that, he was alarmed. Sam called the doctor for an appointment as soon as possible. His results had clearly scared him, but the doctor, a year before, had merely left a phone message saying his lab tests were in, and to call if he wanted to discuss them. My friend said there was no hint of the danger of the triglyceride level in my friend's blood. ********************* This is why I created MedeXplainr Pro!
