Grammy Submission Lesson 2
Assignment #1 404 Shay is an independent experimental artist, singer-songwriter, and producer based in Toronto, Ontario. Her artistic world is rooted in her deep-seated childhood traumas. She turns to music to process, understand, and transmute pain that once touched every part of her into something honest and deeply human, with the hope of sharing that transformation with others who have experienced similar hardships. Her sound blends experimental and alternative music with ambient pop and alternative hip hop. It is uniquely soulful while still being heavily processed, using shifts in pitch, ghostly adlibs, and layered vocal melodies to create immersive soundscapes that reflect her journey through transformation. Assignment #2 LITTLE GIRL is a single from an upcoming EP that explores the idea that safety is created by no longer needing to hide who you are. At the heart of this concept, LITTLE GIRL traces the roots of pain that continue to shape 404 Shay's creative world. While she records independently in her home studio, collaboration has become central to her process. The song began as an a cappella before evolving through a back-and-forth collaboration with producer SPYDERSOUND, with each layer, harmony, and production choice shaping the final recording. Rather than following a traditional songwriting process, the song developed organically through each exchange, allowing the production and vocal arrangements to respond to one another. Drawing from experimental music, ambient pop, and alternative hip hop, LITTLE GIRL is built around atmospheric synthesizers, spacious production, and layered textures to create an immersive sonic experience. The spacious arrangement allows the emotional weight of the lyrics to remain at the forefront while the evolving production reflects the song's themes of vulnerability, memory, and transformation. Assignment #3 I created LITTLE GIRL as an outpouring of emotions bottled up for years; a means of catharsis, healing, and transmutation. This song delves into the state of mind and feelings that arose from the difficult moments of my early life, memories that shaped a decades-long journey of facing, accepting, and integrating deep-seated traumas. I have always found solace in music that feels close to home and is willing to sit with pain rather than turn away from it. I wanted to create something that offered that familiar solace. My hope is that LITTLE GIRL, and the larger project it belongs to, can help listeners walking through life carrying heavy burdens from childhood through their own healing. To me, this song is transmutation in motion, it is the essence of some of the hardest moments I have ever experienced in life turned into a full bodied and atmospheric piece of art.

Grammy Lesson 2
Assignment 1 โ€“ Artist Bio The Prince of Charleston is a hip-hop artist, songwriter, and actor from Charleston, South Carolina. His music is rooted in authenticity, resilience, and purpose, reflecting both his personal journey and the realities of the community that shaped him. Inspired by legendary artists such as Andrรฉ 3000, Kevin Gates, Future, and 2Pac, he considers them icons not only because of their musical success, but because of their ability to inspire, heal, and influence people through their art. Their commitment to storytelling and truth continues to shape his own creative vision. Growing up in Charleston taught him that adapting to adversity and maturing quickly were necessary for survival. Those life experiences became the foundation of his music, allowing him to connect with listeners through honest lyrics and real-life perspectives. As a hip-hop artist, The Prince of Charleston believes that words carry weight. Music has the power to influence culture, inspire change, and provide hope. He embraces that responsibility by leading with authenticity, integrity, and a commitment to representing his community with pride. Through every song, he strives to create music that not only entertains but also empowers and uplifts those who relate to his story. Assignment 2 Project Title: Counted Me Out Format: Single Counted Me Out is one of my most personal records to date. It's more than a songโ€”it's the soundtrack to years of disappointment, perseverance, and ultimately, self-belief. For more than 30 years, I've poured into othersโ€”family, friends, and musical partnersโ€”offering support, encouragement, and genuine love without expecting anything in return. But when I needed that same support, I was often met with silence. It felt like my efforts went unnoticed, replaced by quiet competition, distance, and the painful feeling of being counted out by the very people closest to me. Watching family members and peers achieve success, I celebrated every milestone with sincere happiness. Unfortunately, that same energy was rarely returned. I spent years searching for validation from those I loved, only to realize that my worth could never be defined by someone else's recognition. That realization has become an important part of my healing journey.
