Changed my cushions and wow!
So I worked on my skates a week ago. I cleaned my bearings, got me some new wheels, and I changed out my cushions. Wow! My skates feel so different now. Changing the cushions completely changed the responsiveness. I love being able to lean in and turn on my edges, but it came with a bit of instability and my balance isn’t as good as it was before. I’m trying to figure out if I should go back to the firmer cushions or try and get better balance with the lighter cushions. Is it all a matter of preference? Also do you all tighten your wheels all the way? One video said to completely tighten wheels and then do a quarter turn back. I tried that, but I feel like it made my wheels roll back too easily when I try to balance on one foot. Since I’m new, I’m trying to figure out what I should focus on getting better with vs what is an equipment issue. The possibilities seem endless. For added info, I skate outdoors on a soft (78A) wheel.

@Tiffany Gillette I was like that… got them, and now I want a 2nd pair for indoors 😂 I promised my husband that I’d at least get good before getting a 2nd pair 🤣

@Dezerae Hovis I have Chaya Melrose skates that I bought off of Facebook marketplace 😁
Here’s to hoping you have President’s Day off
I took advantage and practiced for 3 hours today. Don’t feel like I made any significant progress but such is life. I still enjoyed myself! I’m 13-16 hours ahead of folks in the States, so good morning to you all!!!

It’s raining here so no outdoor practice. Maybe I can work on some balance drills indoors

@Albert Schepis accountablity!!
Time per session and skill
How long and frequent are your practice sessions? I’m averaging about 3 times a week outdoors, but I ultimately would like to skate indoors. Also sometimes I’m done after 30 minutes, sometimes it’s an hour. Just curious of others routines. I can’t wait until I feel confident to make a trip to the skating rink worth it. Also how long do you spend on each lesson? I’ve been practicing posture, forward and backward, and crossovers for over a week now.

@Kimberly Manning yes I’m in Bay Area and there’s one skating rink relatively near by. Now if I ice skated, that wouldn’t be a problem!

@Jay West tennis and basketball courts, so outside but I keep it smooth. We have one indoor rink not too far so and the goal is to be good indoors, but it’s not close enough for me to consistently go there to practice.

Hello everyone! I’m Shawntay and I’ve just started skating. I used to go to the skating rink when I was young but never got very good at it. I could only go forward. I would like to be more comfortable to dance and have more fun on skates.

@Pat Finley I understand and agree. I’m outside but limited to tennis and basketball courts. I tried to skate a trail last weekend and quickly retreated 🤣 I'm not there yet.
