Check out the best mini PCs for home lab out there for 2025
My list is mainly dominated by minisforum PCs, but do think they have some of the best out there in terms of capabilities. There are a couple of others though I do recommend: https://www.virtualizationhowto.com/2025/11/the-best-mini-pcs-for-home-labs-in-2025-ranked-by-real-performance/

For something such as this concept; https://www.reddit.com/r/homelab/comments/1n0omj6/portable_virtualized_routerfirewall_platform/ Is the MS-01 the most optimal option? Something like this would appeal to me since I travel internationally.

Hey @Brandon Lee thanks for this. I am really trying to formulate a plan for building my home lab over the remaining 2+ months of the year. I want a good ROI on the investment in hardware. I'm trying to decide if a server build such as this is better than investing in multiple HP EliteDesk Mini PC's (And upgrades). Please provide any thoughts or feedback.
Current and future setup.
I currently use the following for cert prep and study: ThinkCentre M83 Tiny (Win 11 Pro using Hyper V) - CPU:  Intel Core i7-4785T - SSD: Crucial MX300 275GB - RAM: Samsung M471B1G73QH0-YK0 2x8GB - MBD: Lenovo 10E9000WUS Looking at purchasing a NucBox K11 (Ryzen 9 8945HS) Barebones Adding: 64GB RAM 500GB NVMe - OS Drive 4TB for VMs, Lab + NextCloud StorageWhich becomes my primary lab + personal cloud server, handling: - IAM/CloudeSec cert prep and study labs - Defender/Sentinel ingestion - Nextcloud hosting and file migration - VM orchestration, snapshots, and nested virtualization The M83 Tiny becomes the redundant home node, focused on: - File sync (via Nextcloud Federation or rclone) - VM backup target (cold storage or rollback points) - Monitoring and alerting (Uptime Kuma, Grafana, etc.) - Secure remote access (via Tailscale or WireGuard) This setup gives me the following: - Mobility: Take your lab anywhere with the NucBox (Travel/work abroad) - Resilience: Your M83 quietly backs me up at home - Privacy: Full control over my data, no reliance on Google or Microsoft cloud storage - Scalability: Add nodes or storage as my certs and consulting work evolve

@Brandon Lee SC-300 next week, AZ-500 in 4-5 weeks.
Anyone going after certs this year? Cloud, on-prem?
Curious how many might be going after certs this year, either on-premises tech or cloud certs?
