I refuse to operate in someone else's fear when God has given me Love, Power, and a sound Mind.
Four Legal Elements of Petitioning God in Prayer
Four Legal Elements of Petitioning God in Prayer 1. STANDING — By What Right Do I Approach? Standing asks: On what basis do I have access to God to intercede for another? An intercessor stands in covenant with God and stands in the gap between God’s judgment and the sin of others. The role is not to command God, but to petition Him on behalf of others. Our standing is not based on title, maturity, or merit. It is in Christ. Through Him, believers have covenant access to the Father. > **Ephesians 3:12 (KJV):** “In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him.” Abraham models both access and humility: > **Genesis 18:27 (KJV):** “Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord, which am but dust and ashes.” He had access, yet never treated it as superiority. Biblical boldness is not arrogance. We come confidently while God remains sovereign. Genesis 15:17 also shows covenant seriousness as God passed between the pieces. Intercessory Principle: Standing gives access, not control. This is fulfilled in Christ: > **Hebrews 4:16 (KJV):** “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” The intercessor comes with this understanding: “I have access through Christ.” 2. GROUNDS — On What Basis Am I Making This Petition? If standing answers “Why can I approach?”, grounds answer “Why am I asking God to act?” A biblical petition appeals to God’s character, mercy, covenant, promises, purposes, and Word, not merely emotion. Moses is a key example. Exodus 32:11–13 Israel sinned with the golden calf. Moses did not defend their innocence. He appealed to God’s relationship with Israel, His reputation, and His covenant promises to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. His petition can be summarized as: “Lord, remember Your promise.” Daniel prayed similarly: > **Daniel 9:18 (KJV):** “…for we do not present our supplications before thee for our righteousnesses, but for thy great mercies.”
