@Nicole Doucet we could get you to level 6!!! Even with that, for me, it’s not feasible right now! I hope someone from this group can swing it!
New Video course uploaded !
Hey yall, Looking forward to meeting with you tomorrow. The link to the Zoom meeting is in the Calendar. I have posted a new video in the Palletable Cobin Classroom. It is the first video right after the Tools and Materials that says New! Building a cobin on a concrete slab. This is the cobin I built a few months ago here at the campground. Let me know if you would prefer to have it broken into sections and I will happily do that, as I did with the other courses.

@Sir Cobalot that would be fantastic if you can even get a decent rough sketch with approximate cuts!

@Sir Cobalot I can kinda rewatch the video and eyeball it but I love the little “outdoor” addition with the bathroom. I have so many projects going and a little cheat sheet from you would be amazing!
About to begin!!
This is the space I cleared for the sauna! I am going to rewatch the sauna video. One thing I’ll need clarity on is the exact spacing of the 9 4x4s. And perhaps some advice on how to make sure they’re level… Also, I was so inspired to hear Miguel say that he only works on projects with locally milled lumber. We use all locally milled lumber or recycled pallets on our building projects, or bamboo! I was depressed thinking I was going to need to buy lumber for my sauna until I found this platform!! I do have one question/concern: I’m not sure our lumber is as “dimensional” as purchased lumber. How do I manage boards that may have a slight curvature to them? Thx so much I appreciate you all so much! I am so stoked!!!!!

@Melekai Matson ohhhh, one of my favorite places on earth! Our staycation home was taken by the lava in 2018. We lived in Kona but were in Alabama now.

@Melekai Matson the plans for the round roof are all in the cobin course. It’s worth working your way to those videos if you haven’t paid to join. :)
Prototype 🛖
I’ve tried to make mockups of my future house / build based on the few pages that I could read of the hand sculpted book. They advise to design your dream place based on activities and also a minimum viable first build place to live, realistically buildable the first year (my first big cobin here in the middle). I’ve found it super interesting and helpful to think in functions and how I actually would like to live and realize I don’t really need so much indoor space in the end. The two other cobins attached are the kitchen on the left and the bedroom / indoor shower (mini bathroom) on the right. If you have any questions please ask 😅 It may look a bit stupid made of toilet rolls, cereal and egg boxes but it really helped me to figure out how the actually put and build things in 3D to maximize functional space. 🤓📐

@Matt Brna I exclusively use grid paper for notes. Whether I’m sketching designs or making a list. I love being able to assign sizing. I use it for my garden planning, storage solutions, room layout…! It helps my mathematical brain stay engaged.
Design concepts
Just thought I’d share a little bit of context and design concepts I’ve been thinking about for my place and future build. Inspiring from nature forms & plants around and also constraints around me. Let me know what you think 😅✌🏽

The second drawing…is that the shape of a structure that you’re dreaming of? Will you raise boars or are they wild? We raise and butcher our own. Had a whole group of friends out in November for the event!
