Actually it’s not that difficult, the most important part is to get the base colors right, with right amount of tone variation and some color variation to make it interesting. Have a good selection of earthy colors for the stones and a mix of sky color for the surfaces that face the sky and reflect that color. Then the tricky part is having enough variation is size, shape and color to make it look natural. Lots of stepping back to see if it’s looking natural.
