Pursuing online masters in EE at Purdue or OMSCS at Georgia Tech
Hey everybody! I am hoping to get some guidance on which path I should take to break into quantum computing. My primary plan is to pursue an online master’s in ECE with Purdue university. They have a few different specialization tracks. These tracks are: 1. Automatic Control 2. Communications, Networking, Signal and Image Processing 3. Computer Engineering 4. Fields and Optics 5. Microelectronics and Nanotechnology 6. Schweitzer Power and Energy Systems 7. VLSI and Circuit Design Here is also the link to their website: https://engineering.purdue.edu/ECE/Academics/Graduates/MASTERS/POS Which path do you guys recommend I take to help maximize the chances of breaking into quantum computing? The other plan I have in mind is to pursue the OMSCS from Georgia tech which is a lot cheaper than Purdue’s path. But then that would reserve me to software only. Whereas the online master’s in EE gives me more flexibility for both a software path and hardware path into quantum computing. Please, I would love to hear any insights you guys can offer! Thank you

@Niko Cruz Thanks for the input Niko. Yes I get where you are coming from. I’m in the same position right now realizing I want to work on engineering products that are more meaningful (of course meaning is subjective), and quantum engineering is a new paradigm for human technology.

@Ari Noori thank you very for this response Ari! I am becoming more and more inspired to pursue this path because of you
Big things have small beginnings
Hello everyone! I am currently an engineer at Caterpillar. I have an undergrad in physics from UT and a masters in manufacturing engineering from UTSA. I am hoping to get the guidance needed from this community to pursue breaking into the quantum computing world. I also hope I can offer valuable insight and contribute to the community as well.

@Ari Noori Great to hear from you Ari! I am currently a project engineer at Caterpillar and I focus primarily on product change control. I review engineering drawings and make checks on them before approving them. I also have other duties and I have learned some Python and SQL along the way. I am also currently getting into testing of hydraulic and electrical systems under the guidance of a test engineer at our facility. I also assist on projects where I can. Such as running audits for quality, or doing data analysis for manufacturing and supply chain.
