@Phil Smith Its on, going on now. I got here to the studio only to find, the laptop was dead, so I had to charge it up some to get on.

@George Cole Some people here are enrolled in one of my Academy courses. I don't talk about it much, here, but Ive been running an online Guitar school (away from Skool, going since 2009) @Ricardo Ponce explained it pretty well. Typically my students have to do homework, submit a playing assignment, pass tests, quizzes etc to be moved to the next lecture. Since Im here, I just let those here, do their homework and playing assignments on Live Stream.
Random Song/Chart Shares
So I was looking up some of the songs that I’ve taught others over the years, mostly chords/charts, and I was looking to archive them. Well turns out there are hundreds! So I figured, might be fun to share with the community. Random Song, as it was presented to that student. Some I don't even remember teaching but apparently I did. Each day (or so) I’ll post a screenshot of one such session. Not saying it will be useful… but maybe some are better than others!

Todays Random Song Chart - How Deep Is Your Love - Bee Gees. Some of you know Chris, my student and his accomplishments - this was a chart that I did for him to teach him about some finer points of songwriting and chord progressions so that he could appreciate things outside the box, and he took to it like a sponge soaking up water. You know what he plays today. This is an example of somebody that appreciated and valued what I was trying to show him regardless of whether or not he was personally “into it”. I think that is a large part of why he is where he is today, is he always embraced the opportunity to learn and understand no matter where it came from, and being as I taught him from age 12 until the day he entered into that band, and maybe at some point, I’ll make a big huge post about that, I would really like to invite him into the community first, but he is currently in the studio with his band, making a huge album this summer. If you know you know. When I ran across this one. It brought back very special and cherished memories of the many times Chris and I sat side-by-side, as I poured everything I had, although he thinks there’s still more to learn from me, he still considers himself my student, which, if you know him, it makes sense but to many, he’s also one of the best young up and coming guitar players on the scene right now. Im not.

Today’s Random Song - Blue Bossa - A chord and melody arrangement I taught some of my jazz students (interested in.. Im not a jazz player per se) for solo guitar.
BLS Guitar Pick
Sean gave me this guitar pick almost a decade ago. He knows I’m a big fan. I found this while I was cleaning my closet. I still haven’t opened it and I probably never will. Thanks a lot Sean 👍

Trouble...
I thought it was just a hiccup last week, but today found it's not!! Basically whilst playing the sound suddenly goes off, then hesitantly returns then goes off again. Last week I thought it was the cable, admittedly it was a basic one, so replaced it with a Fender Delux one. Everything was fine until this morning. As an Engineer I started a logical investigation, going through the chain. I discounted the amp because the sound changed as I shook the guitar gently. Knowing the cable is a good quality it was discounted too. The guitar was on loan for 5 years, so I have no idea how it had been looked after. Started with the jack socket thinking there might be a break in the soldering or corrosion. None found. Whilst the cover is off I checked the pots, wiring, soldering etc. and all was OK. The pots are smooth and don't cause any crackling. Next tested continuity from the toggle switch and that was OK, except the switch itself is a bit worn and very wobbly. Next checked the pickups: the neck pickups two of its poles will not adjust. The bridge pickup sounded very dodgy: no matter how much I adjusted the poles heights there was no change in volume. So decided to replace the two pickups with a Seymour Duncan JBs and a new toggle switch. I did electronics in my job so soldering the new components is not an issue. The guitar is about 25 years old, so it deserves a bit of TLC! Will post an update when I get to fit the replacement pickups.

@Mo Awkati I understand. They are definitely an investment to be sure!
My set up
I promised I'd share more about my guitar playing. So here it is!! This space is actually larger than what you can see. The area used to be my office, but since retiring I've been allowed by the Management to keep a space for my music!! Actually, I like it because I'm out of the way 🙂 Normally the guitar faces the other way, turned round for the photo. As you can see, I also play the piano. Those are the books I am using to get back into the guitar and the Blues. The one pictured on its own is the Aerobics book. Whilst on the subject, I do have a question: Should I strike the strings using wrist movement or movement from the elbow? Or is it a personal choice? I am making myself use the elbow to move up and down the strings with right hand. Suggestions and advice appreciated Cheers

@Mo Awkati Hey great post, and great questions! Love your playing space. I’m familiar with both books. Levi Clay is a monster teacher, and I have that same book in my studio. In my opinion his guided practice series was very effective for a lot of things. But, what it requires most, is consistency. The biggest plan towards progress is consistency. After seeing those books, I think, Ganapes book is a little high level, for the beginner player, and suited for those that have a rudimentary understanding of blues, and then wants to get deeper. I think, I’d like to get more of your background, goals and I have some questions about your prior knowledge and experience of blues, soloing, current repertoire etc.

@Mo Awkati That question would depend on knowing more about how youre currently playing, as to motion, how you hold the pick, angles etc. I’d need a little more detail before I could see what I’m working with. There are a lot of ways to do this. Perhaps on a live stream when I have it. Hoping to do a few this week!
