Keeping Committed to Practice
Hi everyone, I was just wondering if anyone had any tips for keeping committed to regular practice? I preach about it often to my students, and always feel inspired by their progress but can never get as far as even getting one session of practice in per week…

Mithesha I was hesitant about joining the fluency fast track course. Where am I going to get the time but he based on a 20 minute commitment each day. If he had said longer I would probably have said no. I generally spend a lot more than 20 minutes. Pick a small time target which seems more manageable and probably see yourself naturally spending longer on each practice session. Don’t feel guilty if you don’t practice.
Habit 3: Stopping after mistakes
This is certainly something I recognise. In the beginning of my learning I would just stop dead in my tracks and go back usually to the beginning of the piece. I am slowly weening myself off this habit, but it’s difficult. Picking up at a random place in a piece again another Achilles heal. These are all points Ben has said to me prior to this course. It just seems I can focus on these sort of challenges better. It’s so easy to get focussed on just the technical playing of a piece without having time to think about these sort of issues.
Week 1
Struggling with Hanon No4 my left hand finger 4&5 really poor. But that’s what this exercise is focused on, so will keep working on it. Feel my practice speeds are increasing a bit quicker. At the sane time getting better with playing at slower speeds by sub dividing the time between beats.
Better practice
Didn’t feel I did a good practice session tonight going to go back and listen to video lesson get me focused.

It was my approach I just feel it could have been a bit more focussed
Week 0
- Implementation Intention: My 15 minutes of practice will happen around 8:30 on weekdays and 2 sessions on Saturday one around 11:00 - 12:00 the other around 8:00. Sunday as I have a lesson I will have a break. - Biggest Roadblock: Will be my approach which will probably fluctuate. I will come to love the sound of the metronome.
