The way out is the way through.
In Wonder Man (Episode 4, “Doorman”), there’s a quiet, powerful moment near the end. DeMarr Davis (played by Byron Bowers) saves people trapped in a burning club by doing something deceptively simple: he lets them pass through him. That’s his power. That’s how he becomes a hero. That’s why they call him Doorman. If you’re not a Marvel fan—or a nerd like me—no worries. The takeaway has nothing to do with capes. The scene dramatizes something I’ve always believed: You can receive the absolute best, world-class training. But training alone will never replace the power of learning from others. Sometimes the escape isn’t around the fire. It isn’t over it, It isn’t a clever workaround. Sometimes the only way out… is straight through—through shared experience, mentorship, community, and the willingness to let someone walk with you. Progress isn’t always about being stronger. Sometimes it’s about being open—and letting others pass through your story, just as you pass through theirs. That’s not weakness. That’s how heroes are made.
