I think we’re all in the right place - I can see the red box saying ‘Live’ too.
ZOOMING!
I’m really looking forward to meeting those of you who can make today’s(/tomorrow’s AUS!) zoom. The team and I can answer questions - that we have the answer to - or we may brainstorm live with you! You’re all SO important to the future of the Conversion Club as inaugural members - so an ENORMOUS Thank You, before we even get started!! Kate x

I got side tracked
I’ve had this skirt for years, while I love frills the shape was wrong on me, so after watching the workshop I had to rummage through several boxes of clothes & came across this & I thought I’ll make it in to a top & voila here it is…twilly is yet to come

That looks great, love how you’ve used the frilled section!
Project #1: Twilly!
Hello all! Here is my first attempt at the twilly. (I think my "before" picture shows last here, despite my attempt to order them chronologically!) This is a woolen top with some sparkly bits woven through that I used to wear to work sometimes. I always thought it was a bit too long and slightly difficult to pull on and off because of the shape of the shoulders. I packed it away several years ago intending to alter it. As you can see in the pics, I shortened the bodice and removed the sleeves. I recut the armscyes slightly bigger under the arm and on the front, but not the back. Because there is a lining, finishing was tricky. I ended up using bias binding on the armscyes (I couldn't figure out how to do a burrito method). The bottom hem was a little easier to finish with my machine and some hand sewing, if a bit clumsy. I used the material I cut off the bodice for my twilly, about 70" long and 1" wide. I used the lining on one side and the fashion fabric on the other since the fashion fabric is a little scratchy and thick. Because the fashion fabric is a little thick, it might have been better at a slightly wider width. I wanted to use tassels for the ends but wasn't able to find any at my local fabric store, but I did find some pretty amber/black rosettes at my local creative reuse center, so I used that when I styled the twilly as a choker. I also have styled the twilly in my hair which I think I like as the fabric has some sparkly in it that picks up the silver in my hair.

This has made such a positive difference, it’s a much more stylish top now and looks fab with the twilly. I’m a big fan of using bias binding too and often use it as a feature on my makes 😊

I had this dress in my closet that I no longer can fit comfortably into it ,years ago I worn it on many occasions when my husband took me some where nice , so I chose this for my first conversion. It was an easy first time project for me nothing to taxing as its my first attempt . It's a French Connection Dress the tailoring and finish inside and out is top notch. I cut above the waist of the dress ,there are some nice gathers each side to give detail, then I hemmed 1 inch and threaded elastic through the waist band , I left the zipper at the back to get in and out of the skirt. Then I cut the Bottom part off the top piece to make the twilly I sewed on two little angles my cousin made for me to represent my husband and myself as he passed way last year. I was trying different tops to go with the twilly and skirt and did not like the white sleeveless top so I add what was left of the top part of the dress ,hemmed it, turned the front to the back ,and a tiny micro bolero was added. It still has the zipper running up the back so made a nice edge each side now the back is the front, now I fell that ties that look together better to complete that summer look. The skirt is so versatile and can be worn summer and winter and will now get so much more wear.

This looks great! I had some French Connection pieces I used to wear to work and you are right, they were really well made so it’s great you are able to give the dress a second life as a skirt and love the addition of the angels, such a sweet idea 😊
