The "Play" Button for Your Inner Clock
I spent years studying the effects of light on human biology—how different color temperatures of white light influence our hormones, our circadian rhythm, and ultimately our alertness, focus, and error rates at work. Corporations spend millions tweaking light levels to keep people awake. Yet, twice a year, most of us feel completely thrown off simply because we change the clocks for Daylight Saving Time. Our internal biology doesn't care about the clock on the wall; it cares about daylight. I was reminded of this most clearly during a vacation. Our bedroom didn't have a window. Without natural light, our bodies tried to rely purely on internal timers. My husband woke up at 4:00 AM needing to get up. I woke up at my usual 7:00 AM, but I felt completely off balance—almost like a ghost wandering through the room. The moment I stepped outside and exposed my eyes to natural daylight, everything shifted. It was as if daylight pressed the "Play" button for my day. Before that photon hit my eyes, my brain was still stuck in sleep mode. Nowadays, one of my favorite micro-rituals is taking that very first look out of our bedroom window. In less than a minute, two things happen: 1. My eyes catch the natural spectrum of daylight, signaling my brain to start the daily wake-up process naturally. 2. I get a real-world baseline: I instantly know if I need an umbrella, or if I’m about to do an unexpected "snow-shoveling workout" for my morning routine! 3. Daylight sets your biological clock better than any cup of coffee or alarm sound ever could. 👉 Over to you: What is the first light your eyes see in the morning? Is it natural light from a window/outside, or the artificial glare of a screen or lamp? Try giving your eyes 60 seconds of daylight tomorrow morning and notice how it feels!

Reclaim Your Morning Mind
Your morning sets the direction for your body, mind, and nervous system to lead you through the day. At night, your body regenerates, repairs, and resets to zero. When you wake up, the very first information your brain receives is treated as top priority. - Yes, clear, nothing new you may say. When we reach for our phones right away—whether it's news, messages, or social media—we flood our brains with instant dopamine or stress hormones. Without realizing it, our nervous system gets hijacked by external demands instead of tuning into our own needs: calm hydration, full respiration, daylight to set our circadian rhythm, and giving our cells time to wake up and build resilience for the day ahead. I see digital gadgets in many mornings. my daughter checks her phone while still under the covers; my husband waits until his bowl of cereals - just a little better! I used to do it, too. I used to check my phone right after taking my first sip of water. I felt like I had to know what the day expected of me and what appointments were waiting. Looking back, it felt as if I had already "clocked in" for work—yet I was still in my PJ in the kitchen, waiting for the water to boil. I don't do that anymore. Today, the only reason I touch my phone when in the kitchen is if I realize it wasn't charging overnight and I need to check the battery level. Before getting dressed, I might check the weather forecast. That's it. Sometimes I even arrive at the office and realize my phone was still turned off—and if someone tried to reach me, they had to leave a voicemail. And you know what? I don't feel guilty anymore. The world can wait until I am ready. 👉 Over to you: Do you use your phone right away in the morning? Have you ever tried leaving it untouched right where you placed it the night before, until your workday actually begins? Share your thoughts and experiences.

Vacation mornings
This morning was the first of my vacation. Definitely a different morning than at home. Different noise, different smell and - after 10 hours sitting in the car - different pain and aches. And different people around me. Those that are not used to me just wanting to start the day by myself without long conversations. Do you keep your morning routine while on vacation or do you change it? And how does it feel to change it? I will be exploring exact that the next weeks.

When do you take in your first portion of natural light?
I was just asked when I typically get natural light in the morning. I am living in Austria, so in summer the sun rises early and sets late, in winter the opposite: we often have to get up when it's still dark outside. I typically get up and walk to my bedroom's window, open it fully and look outside. Even in winter - in order to check if it had snowed and I need to rush because I have to first shovel snow. 😄 In winter I turn on the bright light in the bathroom when my day shall start (if I got up too early and want to spend another round in bed the light stays off). And I am using a daylight lamp for several minutes to set my biological clock. So what about you?

Quit or continue
Dear all, since there is not really much traffic in this community I am thinking of quitting it. I wanted to give it a try to build a community from scratch. But I am not having the energy nor time for extensive advertisement on social media. Did you check out the challenge? How did you like it? Let me know what you think: continue to support each other to become morning pro's that use the first minutes of the day for themselves? Or just do it by yourself individually? Thanks, Sandra

We just had a few newcomers - welcome! So let us know how you start your day now and if you'd like to change that. Then we can build from there - morning excercise, morning thought, breakfast ideas and most important how to make it a habit. Let's start the conversation and be sure to invite your friends.
