When Did Authors Become Full-Time Marketers?
Curious if anyone else has wrestled with this: I came from a B2B marketing background, so I assumed book marketing would feel somewhat familiar. Instead, I’ve found author marketing to be surprisingly expensive, fragmented, and often exhausting. At times, it feels like writers can spend more energy trying to become marketers, platform builders, video creators, ad managers, SEO specialists, and social media personalities than actually writing books. Some days I honestly think: “What if I just focused on writing better books instead?” 😄 I’d love to hear how others are balancing the business side with the creative side without burning themselves out.

I'd like to hear about it, too--because I'm dreading it!
Huge accomplishment in revision!
Tonight I cut over 10,000 words from my manuscript and moved a gigantic cluster of scenes to their proper place. Though I'll be editing what I moved to just about smithereens, I feel like this has been a glorious end to my day.

@Bennette Seaman Amen!
Welcome to the Writing Craft Community
I'm Troy Lambert, the Plot Dude. This space is really exciting to me, because there is nothing I like more than talking about craft and story. It's really the foundation of your author business. You need a good story before you can do anything else, and that means finishing your draft. So that's what we're all about here. Feel free to chat, peer to peer, ask questions, or even just commiserate about the writing life. It's your chance to connect with like minded authors, editors, and other members of the community for advice or just a friend to talk to. To get started, feel free to introduce yourself, and please, tell us about your pets. That's really what's important here.

Hi, I'm Samara, and I have zero aptitude for pet care. I once unalived a Tamagatchi, okay? I am pretty much allergic to anything with fur and a tail..hence the swift end to a relationship with a horse groomer...and cats will legit munch on your face when you kick the bucket, so...yeah, no cats. Can you tell I write horror? Actually, I mainly write sci-fi with horror elements. Close enough. Background: Grew up with ten brothers and sisters in a haunted house. Moved out of the house at 15, lived in Germany a few years with a couple of my sisters. I'm a poet, have a bit of a journalism background, have been published in the field of criminology many moons ago, and finally started writing fiction in 2020. I am now revising my fourth novel, the one I decided has the most commercial appeal, and frankly that I like the most. PS I loathe plotting, and it hates me right back.

@Troy Lambert It's like pulling teeth, but effective...but yeah I could never start a writing project with an outline.
Checking in!
For this morning, I am doing what I hope to be the last edits on Baker Street, a new Max Boucher series, and what I hope will re-ignite it, as it has been a while since I released a book in that one. I'm also working on ideas for new covers for the first two books - all that before tackling edits for other people. As we head toward the weekend (for some of you, I don't know what those are) what are you working on?
